EarthMom, great to have you aboard. I love your reason #2, that Beckett assumes that it's for Jack, and Elizabeth is very clear that it's for Will.

3) Because Will saved her from getting shot by Mercer (AWE).

I love this one, because what she was doing was no light thing. She was going to go through with it, too.

One of my favorites, for so many reasons. Because without him teaching her, she wouldn't have made much of a pirate, now would she?

And he was going to make sure she knew how to defend herself, and depend on herself.

This was a radical idea for their day. And whether it was his idea, because he was motivated by what he saw when he climbed up over that rail and saw her surrounded by undead pirates pawing her, or she simply asked him herself, he went against propriety, (yes, he did), and taught her everything he knew.

Can't heart Will enough for this.

And it really, really goes against the mistaken belief that so often pops up ... that Will is somehow going to stifle Elizabeth's freedom.

If that was the case, he would never have taught her how to use a sword, and use it so well. He would have been saying "Don't worry your pretty little head about it, darling. I'll protect you."

Yeah, Will is really gonna hold her back.

6. Because if it weren't for those bars, Elizabeth would have Will already.

Thought I'd go to a more romantic moment. Notice how Will didn't look surprised that Elizabeth is saying such things to him? Ah, yes, stuck on propriety Will didn't even bat an eye at her suggestive comment.

In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that they were under arrest, and Will was anxious to get Elizabeth free, I bet he probably would have taken her up on her offer. In front of Daddy, too.



Of course, I see swordplay as foreplay for these two.

EarthMom ... I hope you're still around.

I've been away for awhile, but I'm back now.

The one thing that I've always found so ... ridiculous, if you will ... is the idea that Elizabeth could never be "free" with Will.

Will always treated her as an equal. They fought together in the cave of the Isla de Muerta. Now if Will was all about stifling her freedom, he would have told her to sit on the sidelines, telling her that he would defend her.

He taught her how to use a sword, taught her so well that she could more than hold her own in a sword fight. Will gave her that foundation which, more than anything else, gave her the freedom to be able to depend on herself!

He believed in her skills to the point that, when Jack was running away from the kraken and Will was leading the defense of the Pearl ( Will for this), he gave the gun to Elizabeth and depended on her to do what needed to be done. A shipload of pirates, a shipload of men, and he made her the lynchpin of their defense.

I always wonder how it is that the feminist faction failed to notice that, in the middle of all that, Jack comes back and takes the gun and ... watch this now ... Elizabeth is relegated to clutching his leg like some damsel in distress while Jack comes in to save the day, haloed by the sun no less as he fires the gun.



Will is the one who was practically eaten up with pride and confidence in her as the Pirate King. When he hears that she's been made king, he barely bats an eye. He sure doesn't tell her that she's a woman and she can't do that. Notice that, at the end of her speech, she's talking directly to Will, and he nods and is the first to support her position.

Will is the one who let her be who she wanted to be, he is the one who actually assisted in her becoming the woman she was meant to be by going against the propriety of the day and giving her the tools she needed to succeed.

Can't Will enough for this.
