Tessa & Scott #66 - beacause what they have is worth first place in GOLD!!
Welcome to the Scott&Tessa thread! PLEASE do not take ANY picture or links Without permission. Thankyou! . . . . .
In our words . . .
Our favourite programs . . . . . . . . Olympic Champions World Champions . . . . . . . . . .In 2003-2004 season, fourteen-year old Virtue and sixteen-year old Moir made their debut on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit. They placed 4th at the event in Croatia and 6th in Slovakia. At the 2004 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, they won the Junior title, qualifying them for the 2004 World Junior Figure Skating Championships, where they placed 11th. They skated to Russian Medley choreographed by their future coach Marina Zoueva and Tutti Frutti. Canadian commentators were gushing about this remarkable new couple, calling them the new Bourne and Kraatz. Coached by Paul MacIntosh and Suzanne Killing, Virtue and Moir were quickly making themselves known in the figure skating world for their intricate footwork and incredible skating abilities.
. . . . .
Because Gordeeva and Grinkov loved each other and they're the G&G of ice dance. Because Tracy Wilson sees Torvill and Dean. Because their best is still yet to come. Because if Scott was George Clooney, he'd always be Tessa's leading man. Because they're a real-life fairytale. Because Tessa knows Scott's mantra word for word. Because people wonder are they dating? "Not yet". Because "they do love each other in a way that's undeniable." Because they’re always finishing each others thoughts. Because “they sense each others every move.” Because "their hearts beat at the same time.” Because when Tessa says no, it means no. Because they can't think of anything bad to say about each other. Because even their families ship them. Because Tessa skipped a grade for Scott. Because Tessa gave up the National Ballet to skate with Scott. Because skating with any other person "is not a choice." Because from the beginning Carol Moir knew they had something special. Because they are each other's constants. Because there's no way a lip brush alone could have embarrased them so much. Because they're used to lip brushes, but this was something new. Because only they can get bonus points from judges for being awesome. Because Tessa tears up when talking about Scott.. Because they need to be in close contact at all times. Because not only are they psuedo lovers, they're pseudo husband and wife! Because they're preparing us for their wedding album. Because their cuteness can be seen from outer space. Because Scott's butt pats are appropriate for any occasion. Because they highfive when they secretly want to hold hands. Because Tessa is one of the Moirs. Because they took a road trip to meet the Queen. Because Scott thinks that Tessa looked stunning in her green dress. Because they took the Queen's place card from the dinner. Because they just had to take a picture together before leaving. Because they love to blast music while taking road trips. Because Scott and Tessa share a completely unique harmony between a man and a woman. Because Scott treats Tessa how a man should treat a woman. Because they always skate with feelings. Because Marina saw a better part of them that not even they can see. Because they knew they were going to be Olympic champions. Because Marina thinks that the most extraordinary thing about them is their harmony - in everything. Because they revolutionized ice dance. Because it's written in the stars. Because "we stayed in Paradise for four days." Because "there's no question they can become legends." Because Scott's wild and crazy aunts were there... Because the OT4 do their part to keep Tim Horton's in business. Because he gives her piggyback rides up the stairs. Because "You can't replace Tessa, no matter how hard you try." Because "their charm and grace is disarming and delightful." "When you're leaving the hospital, it's nice to have someone there who's used to lifting you." Because "The only other person that knows what I’ve been through is Scott." Because they've taken marriage counselling together. *wink* __________________

To be honest, it seems tame after the turning-up-in-the-driveway saga

omg.. i just spent the last hour typing what i wanted to say in response to all these posts about PR related issues. and FF exited out on me! !! what i wanted to say was that i really appreciated these PR related topics. i thoroughly enjoyed reading all of them. i will just generalize what i wanted to say:
forgive me if my post is late as i've been sick since christmas (and still am) and just finished catching up. i know nothing about PR as i have graduated with a degree in the sciences, but it offended me when fsfan1 said that online communication tools are "juniorish". i'm sorry, but...how else would many of us, if not all of us, have known about V/M if not for the invention and use of social communication tools? these tools have helped broaden our world beyond just the four walls we call home. yes, some use it for childish reasons, but a vast majority use it to relay important information with global audiences. with the use of these tools we are now a unified, global universe, and not separate worlds. anyhoo.... to reiterate to fsfan1, i don't think anyone here cares whether or not V/M are a couple, or will ever be. it makes for great art and for great programs, but truthfully, we're more interested in widening and appealing to a greater demographic. there are those who have only gotten wind of V/M thanks to Mahler, and crazily hope they are secretly a couple, but in all truth would it really matter? i think what everyone hopes for in the past posts (and correct me if i'm wrong), is that we hope that V/M are not packaged and viewed only for their relationship and that their skating comes second. we hope that they will be appreciated for the art that they create on ice, to help bring in more fans to appreciate figure skating in general, and to keep their private lives just that. M/C's camp seem to be doing great with that. they are able to be personal without being too personal. and overall, everyone respects that. we're not asking to know every detail of these skaters lives. we just wish that the media/PR for V/M would not be so relationship focused. ice dance is an incredibly difficult discipline to learn. partnering is very important, i mean who would want to dance with someone you can't stand? also, skaters need to be comfortable and be able to fully trust their partner. ice dance is a dance that involves two individuals that need to sync together to make this one dance happen. i have bought their book (i'm surprised that it is not a bestseller..i mean, i was counting down the days until it was released!!) and was a little disappointed in the lack of content on what it meant to be a skater; and an elite one at that. yes i get that they are not a couple, so can we talk about their skating now?! i was hoping for an entry on what a regular day would be like for them (ex: 4am, wake up. 5am: warmup on the rink, etc). and i was hoping for insight on the creative process from choosing programs, what it took to choreograph them, the countless hours of training, the music selection, the costume designs, the traveling to/from competitions, interactions with other elite skaters, etc. i mean, these things aren't just given to them and they happen over night. this creative process involves a team working to produce the next best dance. i loved the little tidbits on how scott felt comfortable in the dressing rooms at competitions, while Tessa did not. what was going on in their mind and the truth behind Tessa's shins and how it affect their relationship and skating. i wish i got more of those kinds of insights; things that an outsider will never understand, think that it happens or have to go through. although i did get a sense of their "journey" to gold, i felt like what i was reading was already in articles, common knowledge, repeated in interviews, etc, only that this was printed and put into a hardcover book. although i still greatly treasure it, i wish it was a little bit more involving and really delved into what it meant to be a skater. why they made the decision to be come elite althetes and eventually olympians, instead of kids who had a coach and would skate every now and again, etc. although i am 23 and have been skating for about one year now, i sometimes do feel like i fall into that "little girl" category. i do idolize Tessa and Meryl. they are incredibly compassionate and wonderful people. and i am grateful for the things that M/C choose to share with us while still maintaining their privacy. these athletes have shown that it takes an incredible amount of dedication, commitment, and drive to become what they are today. not just some fancy swarovski decked out dress and skates. i can only hope that they continue to inspire little girls everywhere to become the next great Tessa or Meryl. __________________

Thanks for the new thread, RiverNene! Dance_Lovely -- great thoughts, especially on the book and where its content lacks. The creative process is SO key and it's just glossed over. What went into creating their programs from year to year; what messages were they trying to convey as they moved through the ranks (beyond "maturity" and other generic concepts)? How concerned are they (Marina included) with strictly interpreting the "story" behind a piece of music versus interpreting it as it sounds? How collaborative is the process in its earliest stages? They say a little about contributing to the choreography (the exact details of which I'm forgetting at the moment), but it's another topic on which they could have expanded. How does a program evolve over a season, beyond adjustments made with a view to judging? How do the variables of one competition to another impact the feeling of a program, if at all (I might be thinking here of their drawing upon the crowd at the Olympics, then seeming much more dependent on each other at Worlds, when their emotions and energy level were considerably different)? So much they could have covered. __________________
