Me too, & she really didn't have many vulnerable moments at all, & pretty much all of them were with Angel

Yes, there was a lot of himself that Angel kept hidden, partly because of shame & I don't think, Buffy or Cordelia or anyone ever knew all of him the way that Darla did

Yup and they couldn't because of all that history.
I'd probably say Cordy knew him second best.

But from everything, I felt that Darla knew him the best although I think it took her a little bit of time to understand Angel. lol She didn't really get the soul impact until she had one herself.

Maybe, I think Angel started to accept himself more so maybe he was more open about his past with Cordy than he had been with Buffy - I don't think Buffy every really understand just how bad Angelus was. I hate when she says in 3x10 'I know everything you did because you did it to me', because it is so far from the truth.

Anyway, I agree that Darla knew him best - she certainly did with Angelus & I agree that she took longer with Angel. For the longest time, she just wanted him to be Angelus, & I think The Trial is when she really saw him for who he was, saw the whole thing - & I think she loved him for that

With Angelus obviously she knew everything about him since she was responsible for him and taught him EVERYTHING he knew!
With Angel, it took her a long time because she couldn't get how Angel could act certain ways even if he had the soul, she just didn't get it until as you mentioned, the Trail episode. That was a huge eye opening episode for her.

It was, she understood everything he had gone through & what he was still going through. Then in s3, even though the soul wasn't hers, those scenes on the roof is where I feel like the two of them were really on the same page.... & then she sacrificed herself

^ It seems during the soul days, anytime they seemed they were finally on the right page, something tore them apart or something.

It did, it was as if those moments of understanding were so brief, then something tragic had to happen - at least we still got those small moments though
