Hmmm - well if I had to guess someone is going to the Flyers-Leafs game tonight at the ACC...

I'm wondering, according to CoP regulations (which is what the programs are intended to be scored within), what was subpar about the choreography? Not how it made you feel or react, but insofar as the actual rules for composition are concerned? Also, if you wish Tessa/Scott and Marina (because it's the three of them who "give them" a program, not just their coach) had made a "more impactful" program, per CoP regulations, what would that look like?
Whenever I think about focusing on CoP regulations rather than the way a program makes me feel, I think about D/W programs, and how they supposedly tick all the boxes under CoP but look totally soulless.

That's what I love about VM -- I think they've truly married the best of both worlds. There isn't anything wrong with wanting to love a program for the way it makes you feel, and I think that part of what makes figure skating so amazing is the way that it can make you feel while you're watching it. Where there isn't just admiration for technique, but for the skaters who can make you forget to watch the technique because their performance is that good. But I can't say that a performance that I love to watch is necessarily the one that ought to win. Otherwise, it really isn't a sport -- it's just the art.

But like any art, it comes down to personal taste, too. And not every art will suit every taste. I mean, I loved their Carmen program, right from the beginning. But look at the people who claimed it was porny, LOL. (Though I'm sure there were some who didn't really think it was porny, but decided to say it was to justify their dislike of the program, when what they really wanted, was for VM not to win.) Still, just because they didn't like it personally, did that mean it didn't deserve to win? (Don't worry, it was rhetorical.)

I mean, when I was sitting there and looking at the "boxes", and looking at DW's programs, I could see the letter of the law being followed. I still don't think they deserved to win, especially on GOE and PCS, but in terms of levels, it was hard to fault the tech caller (most of the time, though obviously there were some issues, and obviously, there will be those with better eyes than I or understanding who could make another case). So to me, it's the system that needs some tweaking; some updating of levels; some better guidelines for PCS and GOE; and most importantly, some pushing with the judging to get them back on track with how they're judging things. (And just to add to that, a pulling back of marks; I never thought VM were underscored, but that DW were being overscored, because VM's marks were incredibly high. Quite frankly, the high GOE and PCS were being given out like candy the last few years; remember how high VM's score was in Vancouver, and now it's like, if DW weren't scoring that at an early fall competition, people were shocked. I still remember Rod Black's Olympic voice: "A hundred and *ten*!")

Truth is, my favourite programs are ones that I *liked* watching, usually because of the way they made me feel. But I think, especially as I'm trying to understand the rules and understand the actual skating, that more and more the ones I like watching are the ones that do find that elusive balance between technique, and artistry.

ETA: VM were at the Leafs game tonight, along with quite a number of other Canadian Olympians. I had to laugh at Tessa showing up, like everyone else, in her Team Canada jacket, medals proudly displayed. But by the time they were doing an interview, she was in her own blazer! (And, showing off her belly button ring with a cropped top -- perhaps celebrating the "warm" weather in Ontario right now.) Anyway -- video was already posted of their interview (Leafs TV was smart to upload it quick! here's hoping it's not geoblocked):

And from CBC, the introduction of all the Olympians -- VM got a huge response! The only one rivalling it was Alex, really.

Looks like dtwyyz was right! I lost track of Charlie in the confusion with the VIA rail blockade, as my train was affected, but I'm glad the brothers watched their favourite hockey team together. Tessa and Scott both seem to be on a post-Olympic high right now, they both look so happy.

ETA: For those unable to go to SOI this year but still want to send a little message to Tessa and Scott, this tumblr user is putting together a scrapbook/fanvideo project which she will present to them when she meets them in April: http://icedancingroyalty.tumblr.com/...-and-moir-fans

Oh to be going somewhere and seeing these two skate again - I can only wish. Especially given that they will be only an hour's drive away. Just can't justify spending more cash on skating right now.

considering fsu has been taken over by overzealous D/W stans, im going to be posting this here, to open for discussion (seriously has anyone noticed that almost every V/M fan who dared to question D/W's wins has been driven out of fsu bc of prancer?? apparently D/W are so fkn sacrosanct criticizing them will get you banned) . Better career- Virtue & Moir or Davis & White i wish i knew russian so i can follow the discussion on FSO and i wish my italian wasn't rusty so i can post @ ice princess' forum

i cant believe 1 person actually have the gall to suggest that v/m did not deserve bronze in 2009 and forgotten about all the times v/m were robbed (gpf, worlds, even olympics). hello did you see their paso doble back in 2009?? i think even olivier schoenfelder said they should've been first in the compulsories. and not to mention, V/M have olympic silvers, 1 gold OTOH d/w have a medal of every colour and since 2 silvers technically outweigh a silver and a bronze, v/m are more decorated olympians than d/w.

i do hope, in 2018 V/M do what plushy did this year and return (as legends)

eta: has anyone come across @goddesspharo tweet?

Ice dance news: Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker won Junior Worlds. Madeline Edwards and Zhao Kai Pang finished on the podium in third place. I'm a fan of both teams' skating and am very much looking forward to what they can do in the future.

I wish these two teams luck, and admire their dedication to what is now in my mind, one of the most worthless sports ever. Must be something to know that you can train everyday according to the published rules, only to see another team win following rules applicable only to that team. I can't even invest in a sport like this as a fan, let alone dedicate my life as an elite athlete.

Over at FSU in the "debate" topic I found it highly amusing that even when presented with video evidence of mistakes made by D/W some are still not getting that when you make a mistake, it should be reflected in your marks. Once again, the stupidity of D/W ubers and fans just cannot get that rules are for everyone. They cried the friggin blues when V/M had a stop in 4CC and how that should have had a bigger deduction but when you try to point out the obvious about D/W -- no, no, no, that cannot be. Flipping two-faced posters. Stupid, stupid, stupid when some refuse to look at video, look at rules and see that not all the judges use them. This "sport", and ice dance in particular, is getting on my last nerve. Oops, that should be the D/W ubers are on that last nerve and jumping up and down on it while they celebrate
1) a tarnished gold medal
2) the stupid scoring on DWTs cause you know, poor Meryl was underscored. HUH!?! More like overscored once again.

GAHHHHHH, I cannot stand those two AT.ALL. I need a puking icon. Do we have one of those here? Apparently not, so instead, I will end with this
