Season 5 for sure.

Yeah, that whole situation with Sawyer and their wedding should have been timed a bit better

Season 2 with the whole BL and JP storylines wasn't great either.

Agreed. Most people seem to dislike s2 more than s5 for LP but I feel as you do.

s5 kind of tore at the LP bond that was established in s3 onwards. It hurt more to see them like that after being such a close friends/ a couple in s4. Things kind of broke apart by the end of s1 so it wasn't surprising that they kept their distance from each other in s2. And Lucas pursued that friendship toward the end of s2, he still cared about her and it was evident in all their scenes. In s5, I had no idea what was going on inside his head most of the season. It wasn't as obvious, he was just so angry and bitter. Understandably but it just wasn't consistent with the way Lucas had been written previously. Peyton had always been special and he took special care with her. In s5 that was gone and it hurt. I think that's why I prefer most of their scenes post wedding over the pre wedding ones. There was at least a kind of hesitancy/awkwardness to their scenes as they attempted to be friends/be around each other again. Then that great scene at the end of the season, "I remember the first time I saw you, skinny arms and a tangled mess of hair."

I definitely don't like their storyline in S5 either and wished they didn't get another third party that season, just can't put S2 above it for the sheer lack of LP in that season. It made sense for them to be distance in S2 after their ending in S1, but it made no sense for both parties to be suddenly in love with other people so quickly and that was by biggest issue with their storyline that season. Luke was definitely an dick in S5, but at least he was still obviously in love with Peyton that season, unlike S2 for both characters. Some of all time favourite LP scenes also occurred in S5 and the writers strike had an big part in why it turned out so badly, so I can be a little bit more forgiving compared to why S2 turned out so badly.

For me its still S2. I'd rather have them ripping each other a new one then not interacting or acting like they love others and its all good. The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference and that's what I loathe about S2.

Yeah, I don't really remember season 2, but I loved the angst in season 5, so it will always be 2 for me, too, for the same reasons.

Definitely didn't help imo that they pretty much diminished S1 LP to build up both relationships as well.

I think season 2 and 5 are both bad for them. If I had to choose though which was better I would say season 5 because at least they got scenes together.
