Kevney #13 {Kevin Costner|Whitney Houston}: He Has Never Stopped Loving Her
Welcome to the #13th Kevin & Whitney Appreciation Thread Supporter List: AchrisL
~~~~~ Kevin & Whitney's Biodatas F u l l name: Kevin Michael Costner Kevin was born in Lynwood, California, on January 18, 1955, the third child of Bill Costner, a ditch digger and ultimately an electric line servicer for Southern California Edison, and Sharon Costner. He has 2 older brothers (middle brother died at birth) and was raised Baptist. Costner was not academically inclined. Rather, he enjoyed sports, took piano lessons, wrote poetry and sang in the First Baptist Choir. He has stated that a viewing of the film How the West Was Won at the age of seven had "formed" his childhood. At 18, he built his own canoe and paddled his way down the rivers that Lewis & Clark followed to the Pacific. Despite his present height, he was only 5'2" when he graduated high school. Nonetheless, he still managed to be a basketball, football and baseball star. In 1973, he enrolled at California State University at Fullerton, where he majored in business. (more info here) M o v i e s famous for: Bull Durham, Dances with Wolves, The Bodyguard, Waterworld F u l l name: Whitney Elizabeth Houston Whitney Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston and ex-army serviceman John Houston. Whitney began singing in the choir at her church, The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, as a young child and by the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 hit, 'I'm Every Woman'. She went on to provide backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine Jackson and her own mother and worked briefly as a model, appearing on the cover of 'Seventeen' magazine in 1981. He gave her a glimpse of what it would be like to be loved unconditionally, a glimpse of what it is like to be respected by a man, a glimpse of what it is like to be treated like a lady, a glimpse of what it is like to be given compliments, a glimpse of what it is like to be accepted for who you are. I firmly believe that Kevin had discernment when he saw the script of the Bodyguard, and he knew in his heart of hearts that Whitney should be his leading lady, but at the same time he could not understand why. He could have sat on his own, questioning God as to why he had the strong urge to have her act alongside of him - he went against all odds to have her, even decided to wait ONE WHOLE YEAR for her to complete her tour. The glimpse she saw about Kevin she might have never experienced it before with any other man that she might have been in a relationship with, and maybe just maybe she did not know how to embrace such love and respect; recalling she was already in a relationship with the other person. She had a glimpse of what it is like to be transparent with Kevin and to see his transparency as well, a glimpse of showing her vulnerable side yet being told "it is okay". ~~~~~ ~~~~~ MS. Thanks for the new thread!!
Beautiful new thread, Erica. Thanks. It's 'Black music month,' shippers. I've been prowling YouTube watching some of Whitney's old performances and thinking my 'what ifs.' The biggest is: What if Whitney sang opera? I mean her voice was so monumentally beautiful, she could have been a gorgeous peer to Shirley Verrett in Lady Macbeth or Samson and Delilah. And maybe, with the right training, been a respectable understudy to the staggeringly gifted Leontyne Price, whom some opera enthusiasts call the Queen of all sopranos? (Plus, classical singers seem to reach old age like people should, and die of natural causes, not on the front of tabloids) Ah, well. It's just wishful thinking. It's enough that this tragic love story could be the basis of an opera! Last edited by GobSmacked82; 06-04-2012 at 08:29 PM |
Twenty years ago, I didn't even like "Run to You" from TBG. I thought it was too hokey and did nothing for female empowerment. Why would a super successful diva need to run to a man, Kevin or whoever? It was the early 90s. Girl power was in. "I'm Every Woman" was my anthem off that soundtrack, and I had graduated high school, was visiting Europe and thought "Run to You" was cute but dumb. Now, I'm floored by her breathing techniques and expression in that song. The woman had unbelievable skills that only the best pop/R&B/soul singers can even approach today. She was destined, ultimately, for the career she had. I just think she might have done "The Color Purple," or "Porgy and Bess" or any other grand stage production and had men and women weeping in the aisles. As usual. |
If you listen her voice was almost perfect again. During the last weeks she had a throat infection and hoarseness requiring antibiotics. Traveling in and out of climates doesn't help.
She could have nailed any style of singing if she put her heart to it
it is so true that it is only now she has passed that I am discovering or re-discovering many of her songs and seeing what you describe: HER AWESOME TALENT I think she could have done great in opera by putting her Whitney-touch to it just like she turned that little country song IWALY into something else. I re-dsicovered one her songs a couple of days agothat I loved when it came out in 1988 "Love Will Save The Day" and the lyrics just made me wonder that if only Whitney had believed in the meaning of the lyrics of her uplifting songs like we did/do, she will probably would have sotpped the spiraling down that occured in the 2000s that kind of led to what ultimately happened Here is a youtube link of her singing that song : http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?...ture=endscreen Let me know what you think, my friend. That song is such a great song! And the awe expressed by those who watched the video re: her vocal prowesses! |
Here is the link to Whitney singing opera with Pavarotti. I think she did an outstanding job: Whitney Houston, Pavarotti, Sting, Elton John - La Donna e Mobile 1994 - YouTube Too bad it's such a bad quality recording. However, I'm grateful to the person who uploaded it on YT. |
I tell you, the world is really missing something special now. There is a vacuum in the musical world, and we'll have to wait to see what talent the new crop of singers will bring us. She's out there, the next exciting mezzo-soprano. But we have to wait a while, I think. And even when she performs, no one will ever forget the way Whitney Houston made them feel—and continue to feel! Because we have hundreds of inspiring recordings of her. |
