Couples of the Moment #222 ~ Now that the stars are in your eyes, I'm beginning to see the light.

Rules:

♥ No bashing of ships, characters, and real life people. (ex: shippers and actors/actresses)
♥ Occasionally mentioning your love for a character or show/movie/book is okay, but keep the main discussion of this thread to loving the couples.

Castle/Beckett

All of the praise for this couple is entirely justified. Their relationship is built entirely upon trust, support, and affection. It would not be an exaggeration to say that they would lay their lives on the line to save each other -- not because they're in a relationship, necessarily, but because that's what partners do. Their relationship grew so organically; it didn't just pop into existence. It started with playful banter that progressed into something so much more. To me, it's not about seeing them as a couple, although that's obviously what I'm looking forward to. I just like seeing them as partners. I like seeing them have each others' backs. Even when the other person might be wrong, they trust each other, and never once do they try to deliberately hurt the other person. It's the only genuinely healthy relationship left on TV (which isn't a diss on modern OTPs, btw), and it's nice to see that. It's nice to see that a relationship built purely on mutual respect and support can still thrive. I have confidence that everything is going to fall into place for these two at some point, and when it does, I absolutely can't wait.

3x16 and 3x17 were two of the most flawless episodes of TV I have ever watched. Pure brilliance from beginning to end.

These two were the real epic couple of Friends. The proof that a couple doesn't need love triangles and everlasting angst and countless break-ups to be great. I loved every single moment with these two, from the ones where they were friends to when they slept together to when he proposed to when they adopted their babies. They stood side by side through good and bad, made little and big sacrifices for eachother and always wanted to stay together.
I always wonder if they meant to put them together from the start.
And this is why they are my ultime favorite ship. The writers did right with them. It is a way I wish more writers would do ships. Don't need a bunch of this get together, break up, get together. They had a fair share of issues but worked through them. Chandler and Monica were a couple that was done right, they just ROCK.

Speaking of rocking, Chandler was always my favorite but after doing some rewatching of friends episodes I have come to realize that I LOVE joey. He cracks me up so much.

Dan and Blair- my OTP of the moment for sure

^^^ That scene is Castle/Beckett truly are perfection. OTP for life

Buffy/Angel

Quote:
I know how you feel and I can't believe I'm the one to say it, but give Faith a chance to grow on you when you start ATS. I admit, I hated the girl with burning passion when she was on BTVS and I never expected to like her because she represented the type of characters I usually don't like, but Joss, amazing, flawless Joss, managed to give her a believable, natural story of redemption on ATS. To me, BTVS Faith and ATS Faith are two different people.
Joss is definitely a great writer, but I don't know if I would call him flawless I don't know, I'll start AtS as soon as I start S4 of Buffy (or should I watch the pilot of Angel first? What was the timeline like? I want to watch in order, so I can understand the crossover events better).
Anyway, I really liked Faith at first, but her storyline with the Mayor ruined her for me. I hope I'll grow to like her again, because her character really had so much potential.

Quote:
And when it comes to Buffy, I adored Buffy/Kendra. I thought their dynamic was the best on the show and I prefer their friendship to all the Buffy friendships on the show except Dawn/Buffy.
They were amazing I love how Kendra trusted Buffy with Angel and how Buffy wanted to avenge Kendra's death

Quote:
To me, despite this show having my number one OTP, BTVS was never able shipping. If Buffy/Spike had never happened, I would have still loved the show. Season 4 might not be my favourite but even that season had great story line and things to think about, some brilliant episodes and meaningful scenes. And then there is season 5 and I have literally no words to describe how perfect and emotional and heartbreaking it was... I think it was the best television season ever made. Then there are season 6 and 7 that have different opinions among the audience. But no matter what you end up thinking about those seasons, they are worth watching and forming your own opinion on them.
Very well said. I adore Buffy/Angel, they make me feel every emotion in the book, but even without them I still would have loved the first three seasons. The show itself is amazing.

Quote:
As for couples, Angel/Cordelia and Buffy/Spike are not linked to each other in any way. I know A LOT of people who love one and don't like the other. I myself was not too big on CA untill recently, I just looked at it from other point of view and saw that they might have worked. Though there are other Angel relationships that I enjoyed even more. For example, I loved Angel/Kate, an extremely underrated pairing. I loved Kate's character and all her interactions with Angel were IMO golden and so was season 1 of ATS.
Oh, I didn't mean it like that. From what I understand, Spuffy and Cangel are very different pairings, and I, too, know many people who love one and hate the other. I just meant that they are the other most prominent Buffy and Angel ships. One of the questions I see asked the most about the Buffyverse ships is "Do you like BA or BS better? What about BA or CA?".

Quote:
If you like Spike as a character season 4 for you will be easier to watch. Funny thing, I myself only became a big Spike fan by season 5 and didn't pay much attention to him in S4
I love Spike, so I'm looking forward to it

Quote:
ITA with this. I love how despite the fact that the Mayor was essentially evil, his relationship with Faith and Giles' with Buffy had this kind of symmetry right to the end.
Exactly. There were a lot of similarities, and both relationships were very genuine.

Chuck/Sarah

It's been a full 24 hours and I still don't know how to put into words how much I love Chuck/Sarah. I've watched the finale scene between them about a dozen times and I still cry each time. It's heartbreaking, tragic, beautiful, hopeful, sweet, and so powerful. I laughed and cried right along with Chuck and Sarah as he told her their story. It was such a wonderful moment, even with the tragedy behind it. But, I chose to believe that the kiss worked and that Sarah got her memories back and they get to quit the spy world and buy their dream home and start the family they always wanted. I think one review summed it up perfectly:

Quote:
Once upon a time, Sarah was Chuck's guide into a strange new world, and now he gets to return the favor.
source

I just can't, they are too perfect and wonderful and I didn't think I could love them more than I already did.

Achilles&Breseis (Troy)

Achilles: Are you afraid, Briseis?
Briseis: Should I be? What do you want here in Troy? You didn’t come for the Spartan queen.
Achilles: I want what all men want, I just want it more. You don’t need to fear me, girl. You’re the only Trojan who can say that.

I love, love, LOVE him!!! Stefan is just so easy to love Even when he is being a grade-a jerk.. I can't help but want to hug on him and love him... Stefan is my hero.. he is the only reason I watch TVD. He is the most complex and interesting character. I ADORE HIM I will continue to worship him and the ground he walks upon Besides I just can't deny Paul Wesley and his outstanding talent and the fact that he is also incredibly beautiful is fantastic aswell

My number 1 TV OTP! I feel like I haven't been giving them as much attention as they deserve since the show ended but they will always be my favourite televison couple of all time. They made sticking through 10 seasons of Smallville totally worth it. They went from frenemies to secret friends, from collegues to best friends, from lovers to being unable to imagine their lives with anyone else. What I love most is that all of these transitions were organic and believable, we truely got to witness them falling in love with each other though years and years of wonderful build-up. They are the perfect example of true equals that supported, trusted and loved each other completely. They are one of the few couples I support that I truely feel comfortable calling soulmates. An epic, legendary, iconic love

Well, the thing is, to me, BTVS is the best show ever created, so that's why quite often sometimes I sound like a desperate Joss fangirl But I think this show deserves the love it gets. To me, every season of it was amazing, especially season 5 and 6. However, no matter what you end up thinking about it, this show is worth watching untill the end.

Well, I kind of think that ATS season 1 and BTVS season 4 should be watched together. I admit, I'm not a fan of ATS in general, but season 1 to me was a pure gold. And IMO it was even better than BTVS season 4. So I would recomment to watch them at the same time, but it would be totally ok if you watch any of them first and then the other one.

I felt exactly the same way about Faith I started out liking her, then ended up intensely hating hr and I thought there will be no chance for her to be redeemed for me. But ATS somehow managed to do it and her SL there was actually one of a few enjoyable things on that show to me. So I kind of separate BTVS!Faith and ATS!Faith in my mind

Quote:

I was so sad when Kendra died Really, her and Buffy's friendship was special and I prefered it to all the other Buffy friendships. Plus Kendra was my second favourite slayer after Buffy. I thought they had such great dynamic and great build up of their friendship. Out of a few mistakes that Joss made killing off Kendra so soon was one of the biggest IMO.

Yeah, I totally understand what you mean, it's just that I'm trying to say that if you don't like one, you should still give a chance to the other, because they are nothing alike. Plus Angel has few other relationships on ATS and maybe you like them too.

Quote:
I love Spike, so I'm looking forward to it
Great Then season 4 will be definitely enjoyable for you to watch, he is great there.

And I feel like I need to once again express my love for season 6 of Buffy, because it seems like it needs my love and my ability to come up with unpopular opinions

BTVS season 6/Life

Buffy: I was happy. Wherever I was… I was happy. At peace. I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it. Time didn’t mean anything nothing had form but I was still me, you know? And I was warm and I was loved and I was finished. Complete. I don’t understand about theology or dimensions, or any of it, really, but I think I was in heaven. And now I’m not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out by my friends. Everything here is hard, and bright, and violent. Everything I feel, everything I touch… this is Hell. Just getting through the next moment, and the one after that, knowing what I’ve lost…

credit

Even though season 5 is my favourite season for BTVS in general (and probably my favourite season on television), season 6 will always remain very special, unique, amazing, honest and all kinds of relatable. The way Buffy's emotional condition and depression was performed there is probably the best portrayal of this issue I've ever seen on tv or in movies. It was so relatable and realistic and so close to the way I felt (and feel) myself that it was scary at times. Other writers couldn't do it like Joss, they use such things to make their shows more dark or appealing and it looks contrived and unrealistic most of time, but Joss did it in the most brutal, honest and realistic way - through the show that was supposed to be about supernatural things. Buffy being torn out of Heaven, being forced to do "the hardest thing in this world - to live in it", having to "get through the next moment and the one after that", not having anything "to sing about" was golden. I'll always, always apreciate Joss' work with season 6. He also showed us that sometimes evil can come not from some higher forces but from people and THEY can be the biggest evil in the world. Finally, he showed us a honest and greatly structured story of redemption that can be the hardest thing ever, but if you choose this path, if you work hard for it, you can find a way in the end. You can find the way out. And you have to go on living no matter how hard it gets. That was a true massege of that season and one of the reasons why I will always love it.

Buffy/Spike only Joss could take two characters with such depth and complexity, put them together and make their relationship even more deep and complex than themselves. Out of all the BTVS couples Spuffy was the one that got the most development and ended up being the most mature and strong relationship on Whedonverse. None of Joss' couples ever ended on girl's VERY last word on the series being the name of the one she loved. And taking that this girl was Buffy Summers, the main protagonist and pretty much the icon of Whedonverse itself, I think it says more than enough

+

Ron/Hermione ok, I have to make a confession for which 99 procents of HP fandom is going to hate me... I was not a fan of Hermione. I know and appreciate her role in the series, but it took me a very long way through multiply books to ever grow to like and relate to this girl. A girl that was sold as a perfect person but I didn't want to buy it. I had too many issues with her and to see her differently I needed to see other sides of her character. And Ron was the reason I could see them. Ron was the one who never put up with her flaws, but challenged her and provided her another point of view on world because that is what she desperately needed to grow out of her tunnel vision. Ron was one of a few people who was honest with her, instead of avoiding or worshipping her and at the same time he admired those aspects of her personality that were truly admirable such as loyalty and bravery. He didn't take her for granted and he always standed up for her. Even when he was a 12 years old boy who experienced mistreatment himself he never put up with anyone insulting her for being a Muggle and tried to attack Malfoy three times when he said bad things about her. Two of those times Hermione wasn't there. Ron didn't do things to impress her, he did things that his heart was telling him to do, he was not rational and that is what he tought her to do as well. They balanced each other out and showed each other two different worlds that combined so beautifully.
