Thanks for the new thread. I remember that EW interview. Somehow I overlooked that spoiler.

Because I have never been to jail I have no actual life experience in this matter ;);). When Rafael went to jail, he was there for only 9 months, it was a very short period of time. Also he knew that it was temporary. So he picked up a few skills like washing dishes, and learned to look at life through a new perspective, but he knew when all of that ended he would come back to the same luxurious life. Other than his tight clothes, hair gel and razor he didn't actually give up anything. So to me it does make sense that he will struggle in the real world. Jail is not the real world. I have a friend's father who was deported from the U.S and I believe he was kept in some sort of prison facility for months (never asked for details). He told me the place was like a resort, it was like a getaway. He wasn't completely joking. So yes Rafael went to prison but in prison he didn't need to struggle for things like money, or job. He doesn't know how to live in the real world without his credit card, or car, or hot showers.

That's true. It's not like he did 20 years and went bankrupt. And there are prisons that are not even hardcore. He went in rich and came out rich. He only did a few months. I wonder what temporarily job he will get? Jennie says she knows what it is and will take him awhile to find it. I say temp job because I believe he will open his own business in the future. Unless this one will be the future business.

Fair enough. There are minimum security prisons that can be cushy. As long as the show doesn't forget it, I'll be okay. I just don't want the writers dumping on Rafael again. Maybe he'll do the dishes to balance things out.
|
Hmm, I guess. 9 months still sounds like a long time to be in jail, to me at least. Considering some people don't handle one day very way. Especially being away from family. And prison, even in the cushiest of places, usually has very meager amenities, and would at least think change his perspective on 'luxuries' some. But that's just what I would think. I will wait and see how it's played.
We don't have really any context on how he managed in prison, (other than that he left more 'zen'). But... at this point he's been on the outside for a couple years (Right? the time jump was a 3 year jump, he was in prison less than a year), so I do think the realization of being without money in his life state right now would change his immediate behavior. I don't think it'll make him look bad, just be entertaining, like his awkward bus outings. |
And don't forget many wealthy people are actually treated better in prison than your average Joe inmate. Raf isn't a crime boss but many of them were/are known to have luxury cells. Not all prison experiences are the same. Yeah, prison did change him but his money never disappeared until now. He went right back to the penthouse after his release. Now, he's broke.

It probably won't be a huge plot point anyways. If it ends up being that big of an annoyance to Jane, she can join Rafael in the shower. :D It'll save some water that way.
|
I am just waiting for scenes like Rafael walks out of the shower without a shirt on and Jane is half turned on, half angry.
|
 The slow motion just-a-towel shot. OR walking in on each other naked.
|
lol I hope he sleeps shirtless. Do y'all think the cast will ever take another cast photo? I know it's not up to them, but I wouldn't mind an updated photo since Michael is no longer on the show because he's dead. Many shows get updated cast photos.

Yes, to all of this. I want no rom com cliche to go ignored.
