I don't even remember Petra being kidnapped. That shows how much of an impact these kidnappings are making on me.

I think with Luisa's kidnapping they were trying to get Mutter or Sin Rostro's attention. It doesn't even matter now.

I understood that there's only so much time with the babies. So naturally they'd have scenes with the mom/Jane, who is the lead. And I was OK with that.

Spoiler:

I'm beginning to think it's done on purpose, so the audience won't side with Rafael.
And that's really manipulative and hacky writing.

The audience that has been paying attention since the start of the series, would side with Rafael. I don't doubt that there has to be some turning point ahead where Rafael will come out on the other side. Things have to pick up with his business and his family relationships with his sister & newly discovered brother, have go in a positive direction or he's going to be just where he was when he decided to give Jane up. I also see Jane realizing that Rafael is making the most sacrifices to his desire to be a present father to Mateo as she plans a life with Michael.

I do think that the show may be writing for the critical acclaim and potential awards now, rather than the fan bases. I saw one site/blogger tout that there have been 38 great episodes out of the 38 that were broadcast. A Golden Globe is nice accolade from the press, but the show needs some heavyweight Emmy nominations to push its recognition and get the viewership to over a million. Just like "Orphan Black" (don't watch it TBH) fans were quite vocal with wanting the star to get recognized with a nomination for years and she finally go a nod last year. Gina's and the shows time is coming but they need to make sure that they don't lose a portion of its audience in the process.

Spoiler:

I don't know why the writers have turned on Rafael, but it began when they came back in January. He was pushy trying to get back with Petra more than once. He was "mansplaining" when he was just pointing out the Petra was nesting. Now he's ungrateful because he doesn't want Mateo to move too far.

What kind of crappy writing requires Michael to be perfect to be liked and Rafael to be an ass to be hated? All the characters were multi-dimensional before. Jennie should fire all the writers from January onward.

ETA: This show is undeserving of an Emmy this year unlike last year. Even Gina's acting can only be as good as the material she has been given. She had a lot more to work with last year because Jane was more faceted last year.

Here are some tweets re last episode from @rafaelandjane to the show runner

I get that Jane chose Michael but is it necessary to erase everything that made Jane and Rafael's relationship beautiful?

the man that never wanted to emotionally blackmail Jane is getting lectured by a woman who wanted him to play the cancer card

does Raf ever do anything right? Does he ever deserve our sympathy? Not when he loses his dad, not when his sperms are stolen

not when he loses his business, not when his son is getting a new step daddy, not when his son will be far away

we were supposed to cry for Jane that she couldn't part w/ Mateo & go to class for few hours, but who cares about Rafael?!!

ETA :Excellent points about Jane taking the baby to class because she didnt want to be away from him but its ok for Raf to have to drive almost an hour to see his son

Agreed. This season was not as good as the first. Overall, the quality of the show is not what it was in S1. I hope they fix this in S3.

Also, we are up for a new thread, any title ideas this time?

Thank you for sharing these. They so succinctly express all that I've been upset about. I might just sign up for a twitter account just to retweet these to Jennie!

The last point is especially true. Jennie might be a bit anti-male if she can't see the hypocrisy of that one.

IMO, a show shouldn't be catering to fan bases *or* bloggers. Either makes for a bad show, which is what JTV has been this season. It's not about shipping or being Team Whatever.

And, no, there hasn't been 38 great episodes. Jennie must have slipped that blogger a 50 dollar bill.

Nowadays, buzz comes and goes really fast. I feel like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has already supplanted JTV as the low rated critical darling on the CW with a talented star at the center of it. Rachel Bloom already won a Golden Globe *and* a Critic's Choice award this year. BTW, I've never seen the show. I'm just going by my own impressions of the media hoopla.

Awesome points! I hope Jennie answers them. Because they are all very good points.

I'm drawing a blank. I kind of want to use Gina's quote about J/R's chemistry.

While it may be off to us the critics seem to love it with each new chapter. Very few have expressed any problem with the direction to pair Jane with Micheal.

There have been so many missed opportunities to turn this story around starting with those emails between Jane & Rafael. Only thing it led to was Michael realizing Jane & Rafael were in love. That should have sparked a serious discussion, as well as his parents objections. No mature discussion AT ALL!! Just everything is perfect. And to have Michael propose so soon!! Why the rush? Is he afraid Jane would change her mind. And speaking of rushing, why was it too soon for Rafael, but OK for Michael.

I found it hypocritical that none of Jane's family thought much of Rafael for Jane but had no problem taking advantage of his hospitality when their place flooded.

Remember this "gem" from Michael to Rafael: ""Get a book and read it, so you’ll know what you’re talking about. Then when she doesn’t know, and her mom doesn’t know, and even her grandmother is stumped, THAT’S when you come in with the save.” The tide started to turn shortly after this....

I don't get it all either. Why bother showing the emails or the objections of Michael's parents if it goes nowhere? I guess we have to see if it all makes sense at the end but I don't think it will. The show has developed memory loss when it comes to plots, themes and threads in its week-to-week story telling. It has become more of a sitcom than a dramaedy. Don't even get me started on having lost is telenovela roots!

That was a bad sign. It was stupid on so many levels. First, the fact that Rafael went to Michael for advice. Second, the advice made no sense. Jane, the school loving aspiring writer wouldn't know to do research online, or to read a book?

Another bad sign, it was Jennie Snyder Urman who wrote that episode.

Thread titles:

"It was always going to be weird. But it's a kind of a good weird."
"I've never been the type of guy that believes in fate or desitny, but what are the chances?"
"We're doing everything backwards. First we're having a baby and then going out on our first date."
"Jane I want to marry you. How much more present can I be?"

because she wants the baby's first word to be 'daddy'
because he wants the baby to get everything from Jane - the more Jane the better.

So sad that these are ALL from season 1.

I like the first one. And it's from Season 2, the premiere, but still S2.

I like this one the best:

because he wants the baby to get everything from Jane - the more Jane the better.

The "Daddy" one is sweet too.
