They just wanted more drama for W/E, so they tried to introduce a triangle in DMC. And the rival pairing actually worked better. Plan backfired on them.

Same here. Actually I shipped both in the first movie, there was potential in both relationships. And it sucks to admit that I watched the first movie because I thought Orlando was hot But I was happy it was a Willabeth ending because I didn't think there'd be any sequels

By the second POTC, Will/Liz just didn't make sense anymore imo. Once the movie opened with her crying and the ceremony not going ahead, I figured that's the way it was meant to be And she had all those scenes with Jack. I figured the writers were building up to a surprise Sparrabeth ending...

(Then I learned I was wrong and Disney fairytale predictable endings do win out over plots that actually make sense after all.)

See, I've never really seen the POTC movies as traditional disney movies. Probably 'cause they're not cartoons so they have a different feel.. But they just seemed much darker and realistic to me. That's why I thought, just maybe, the ending wouldn't be so predictable after all.

When Beckett told Elizabeth "A marriage interrupted, or fate intervened" I always think it's forshadowing, and that fate was intervening. Exspecially the way the compass kept pointing to Jack.

I remember after I saw the second movie, me and my friend came back and debated all night over what had happened. I was convinced that there would be a Sparrabeth ending for the next movie, she wasn't. She was right, and Disney prediticable romance happened.

I agree. It was what made me actually hope for Sparrabeth.

Maybe that should tell the folks in charge that people like to see non-conventional couples get together

Shouldn't they have figured that out by now?

Agreed. The cinema needs more unconventional couples. Like J/E.

There were SO many signs in DMC that pointed to Willabeth being doomed and Sparrabeth being the end - like the wedding dress sinking in the water coinciding with the JE 'curiosity' scene, Beckett's and Norrington's comments about her feelings for Jack, Will almost accepting that he's lost her to Jack... the list goes on.

After I saw it, I thought there was no way it could end Willabeth. Didn't make sense after the sequel. Only made sense in the 1st movie

Stupid writers giving us false hope

The wedding dress was clearly a doomed sign.

Agreed. Jack and Elizabeth wouldn't have made sense at the time they first movie ended, but they do make more sense the Willabeth does as the story went on.

I hate when writer's do that.

Why put in little moments like that and not have them amount to anything???

I was fine with E/W in the 1st movie. They had great chemistry then and their storyline actually worked. In the sequels though I just found their relationship really contrived to suit a disney traditional romance. In comparison to J/E, their scenes were flat and uninteresting. Let's face it, people watch DMC mostly (if not only) for J/E.

It's weird... The commentary has them saying stuff which hints that they were gonna continue Sparrabeth in the prequel.

... Obviously it's called toying with people's minds to get 'em to watch the movie in the first place.

I actually waited a long time to see AWE. Like everyone else, once I heard the contrivedness of it and that they basically were saying "******* you" to the sparrabeth fans, I just didn't care to see it for a while.

I know. It's annoying.

I certainly do. And I watched AWE fully expecting that Will and Liz would no longer be a couple, and something would happen between Jack and Elizabeth, and in the beginning it even seemed like it. What with Liz being the one to shake Jack out of his hallucination theory when they all came to rescue him.

I've never listened to the commentary, but I agree that was probably toying.

True. There's still awkwardness between Will and Liz in the beginning. Notice though she says to him "you thought I loved him?" - without actually saying she doesn't.

I have to laugh though at the fact that Will spends the last half of DMC thinking she loves Jack, then the first half of AWE thinking they're going to rescue Jack so she can be with him.

I did notice that.
