Or at least as high as the writers were when they decided to have the W/E ending.

I so agree. You have to be really high or something to like AWE.

Seriously! I just remember sitting there in the theater in my pseudo Lizzie outfit being beyond excited and hopeful before the movie started. (I'm left in the picture). But I guess I had to be as hopeful as possible given what happened the evening before AWE. I, of course, had my stylish J/E wallpaper on my computer and my friend noticed it. She said, "Oh! My friend got to see an advanced screening of Pirates and was really bummed those two didn't kiss again!" Now understand, I had gone months and months avoiding spoilers and then the freaking night before, my hopes are smashed. But I still tried to be hopeful, as you can see in this picture, just moments before my AWEsomely bad experience began.

Let's just say that after the ending of Atonement I had to watch Johnny slit throats to cheer myself up

That sucks. I hate it when friends just randomly blurt out spoilers you've been trying to avoid. But sometimes it can't be helped..

I went in a bit optimistic. I thought the chances for a J/E ending were about 30%, and W/E 70%, but I definitely thought J/E would at least have closure. It really pissed me off that they got nothing.

I was 100% sure they were going to end up together until the day before the premiere. If you guys remember that's the day we found out about the novelization and it had the ending in it. Then my hopes sort of went into the toilet

Sparrabeth at livejournal made me optimistic, but as we got closer and closer to the release date, my hopes faded more and more...

I agree the sparrabeth lj comm was great for making you feel like like our ship was going to kick some ass

See my thing was I used rational thought. Unlike the writers

I thought, why would they create Sparrabeth if not to put them together? How could they blindly ignore how amazing Johnny and Keira were together? And how could they ignore that the fans were OVERWHELMINGLY in support of Sparrabeth? And what about all the merchandising? And all that foreshadowing and the fact that Will was going to die It seemed the only logical ending - that Jack and Elizabeth would end up together.

But TnT missed the logic train and took a direct flight to Crazy Town.

J/E backfired on them. They used it to create problems for W/E and make the audience worry that the perfect disney couple was not going to end together, then tossed that conflict out the window when W/E had more. I'm not sure if they were blind to the tension and chemistry J/E had, or if they chose to ignore it so they could stick with their ending.

Ignoring it made no sense - J/E needed to be resolved!

I agree

They didn't forsee what was going to happen.

I think it was the biggest problems of doing two films at once. They seriously blew it.

I remember.
And then we all stayed up waiting for the spoilers to trickle in from the premiere.
We discovered a new level in our snarkiness that night.

The parachute scene is gorgeous. Plain and simple. But you know, the ending of AWE doesn't really bother me so much, because I don't look at the canon of the couples, I look at what is canon for the individuals. As others have said, within each character, we have Will, who is bound to the Dutchman, Jack and Elizabeth who are not. Both of them have duties to the brethren, and given Lizzie's inability to keep it in her pants (let's face it she was without Will for like two weeks, he could have been in danger on board the Dutchman, and she was lusting after Jack. That just SCREAMS love to me), she'd be wanting to tap that. Somehow, I don't think Jack would be pushing her away again either.

Oh, and I just wanted to say, (this is totally O/T) but I got my first tattoo yesterday, and I'm really happy with it. It's just a simple dragonfly (inspired by my favorite song by Garbage) on the nape of my neck.
