Thanks for starting this thread. I`m very surprised it took so long for Fayana to get their own thread here, but it`s better late than never. I absolutely love Faye and Diana together and think that they should become an official couple. They have such great chemistry that is impossible to deny.

Also i like to be added to the list.

Who Should Faye Be With on The Secret Circle: Jake Armstrong or Lee Labeque? - The Secret Circle

Vote, vote! Diana is slaying, obviously.

IDK why they didn't mention her in the title or article itself, just the poll.

That poll is brilliant. Fayana is running away with it. And quite right too! Now the writers just have to give us what the masses are clearly demanding.

I'm wondering if it's not just up to the writers though, but the network as well. Because we know there are BTS people interested in taking them further.

I remember reading about some controversy with Willow/ Tara's first screen kiss with Joss even threatening to quit (?) and even the possibility of a Veronica/ Wallace romance on Veronica Mars was apparently vetoed by the network, I'm not sure though, I can't remember the sources

Yeah, I knew there was some controversy about the W/T kiss. I'm not sure on the details, but regardless, it went ahead and the ratings were barely hit. I wish networks would realise that, even though they would certainly get some angry complaints from a few small-minded people, they represent only a very vocal minority, and the ratings won't really be hurt at all. In fact they could even be boosted by bringing in the LGBT audience.

Skins enjoyed its most successful seasons when Naomi/Emily were around. British soaps like Eastenders and Coronation Street have had multiple gay and lesbian storylines, and while all of them attracted a lot of complaints from "moral guardians", the ratings were not hurt one bit, they are still the most watched shows in the country. Torchwood has an openly bisexual lead and has been renewed for a fifth season. Even in America, Glee has Kurt/Blaine and Brittany/Santana and it's still going strong. And Pretty Little Liars with a lesbian lead is, AFAIK, doing fine also. Networks have absolutely no reason to be afraid of doing a gay/lesbian storyline. It's only the vocal 1% that would have anything to say, and it's the same 1% that are boycotting Harry Potter because it promotes witchcraft. 99% of the audience honestly don't give a flip these days, at least not nearly to the extent that they would stop watching the show, I honestly believe that to be true.

Most of those shows, like you said, are British. Even on Glee Brittany/ Santana are constantly sidelined for other couples and PLL airs on a cable channel I think and although I do think their representation of a LGBT lead character has been well handled, Emily's relationships aren't given as much focus as the het pairings. Or maybe it's because her love interests keep disappearing, IDK..

From the site that is running the poll:

5. Flirtatious Fayana
Apparently, you Secret Circle fans want some girl-on-girl loving in Chance Harbor — of the Fayana variety. Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) and Diana (Shelley Hennig) couldn't be more different, but there's no denying that they have a special chemistry. One might call it a "hate to love you, love to hate you" situation. Nothing would bring us more joy than watching these ladies get experimental in the clubhouse!

Yeah, I think American shows are generally more scared about doing gay/lesbian storylines and tend to hold back more. But I don't think the American audience is any more averse to same-sex pairings than the British audience. I don't know much about how American channels work (I think PLL is on a sister-channel to ABC or something?) but I looked it up on wikipedia and PLL gets much higher ratings than TSC, about 30% more.

I don't watch Glee or PLL, so I can't comment on how sidelined they are. But these ratings to me suggest that most people don't care if a character is gay, I don't think they would start to care if they got more focus. I wish American networks would actually realise this. There's actually very little danger in doing a gay storyline. The ratings will not suffer. There just seems to be this aversion or fear of it in the industry, and it's completely baseless.
