Sonja: "It changes everything! That boy has to die, I don't care who he is. You can't hesitate!"
Varek: "How dare you, you ungrateful - you question me? I gave this life to you! I've sacrificed more for our cause than you could possibly imagine! You don't worry about me, got it - that boy has no father. And I have no son."





From the Movie:

Sonja: "Think of something, this kid is out there! I'd rather die than go back to that."
Varek: "We'll find the child. There is no alternative. We'll find him, Sonja."

Well in the last thread you said we were gonna discuss each scene in order, so that starts with the cabin scene. Is this going to be comparing it to the script, or doing an analysis of the movie's version and then the script version or...?

For now, how about just the movie scenes? Then we can start discussing deleted scenes and script scenes/differences.

Sounds good to me. So then we start with the cabin scene. I guess the first thing about it is Sonja's reactions to Justine's comment in the basement, and then her reaction to when Varek forced her to watch Grenier kill her husband.

I love Sonja's reactions. First the protective lover who's pissy about Justine insulting Varek - it's almost like a, "How dare you say that to him, you're nothing!" reaction. You can just tell that these people mean nothing to her, and she wants so badly for them to know that her mate and Alpha is better than them. And then the thrill and glee on her face when Varek has Grenier kill the husband.

She looks so overjoyed and surprised, and it's kind of sick, but on the poorly shipper aspect, it's a cute scene. She's so excited that her mate is allowing this and I think she was starting to get turned on. But then Varek giving up on Justine and her pack was a downer, which leads into their next scene.

And then the next scene, with her heading upstairs after Varek, obviously not getting why he would just so suddenly believe Justine and leave them to get killed (rather prolongingly I might add) by Zo and Grenier. And with Varek, he believes it because he's been a Humanist, and understands how they sometimes work. Like with the video-tape. "Boosted morale without risking a thing."

I loved Sonja's more quiet expressions after she freaks out (which was deleted obviously -_-) when she's going over to Varek, how she looks unsure, afraid, and meek after snapping at her Alpha. And I loved how gentle he was with her, quietly assuring her and carressing her cheek like that. I love the tenderness there.

I love how he touches her so gently but his voice is almost firm - reassuring, but firm. Yet her touches her so delicately and tenderly to comfort her at the same time. Offering both a harder, more leader-like assurance as well as a lover's comfort.

And I love how she's so confused and disgusted while he almost admires them. He even seemed to be reprimanding Sonja for feeling such a way. The tone he uses to tell her the Humanists have faith - it's almost as if saying, "Have faith as well." Trying to tell her that everyone needs faith in something, and sometimes it can go a long way.

Exactly, and I do wanna know if they did film that little bit after Varek said "We'll find him Sonja." Where she asked how and then he remembered the video-tape. And I do agree on the leader-assurance with the lover's comfort working very nicely for the scene, and I loved Sonja's expressions after saying she'd rather die than go back to that, when she looks like her mind is racing and she's just trying to figure out what they're going to do. I wouldn't be surprised. And I know, Natassia's acting was wonderful in that scene. She does look like she's panicking yet at the same time she's returning to being submissive. It's like her frustrating is fading back to fear and also meekness towards Varek for being so snappy. And he's so understanding in that scene.

That it is. And then of course there's the scene where everyone is prepping for battle and they keep looking at each other. I love Sonja's flirty, naughty looks. She just seems so much more relaxed now that they're at the town and (they think) close to getting rid of the threat, and you get a better idea of what she's like when she isn't under pressure. Plus their matching evil smirks.
