Yeah, they've always been one of those ships where they're more popular than you realize, but people don't really get involved in the fandom...

I also think if people rewatch the show now when they're older, they might feel differently about them. Unless they truly cling to that "Ross & Rachel are endgame" narrative. I remember when I watched the show when I was in my early teens I loved Ross & Rachel. But as I watched it when I got older, it changed completely.

I agree, I don't think it's just about being older now, but I think people want more substance in relationships on tv now. A lot of people are over the 'guy falls in love at first sight, now feel sorry for him & root for them to be together' trope.

Completely agree and you and I have had the discussion so much about so many ships, since we share a lot of the same ships.

But the world is SOOOO different now.

I feel if Friends was on right now, Joey/Rachel would have been way more accepted than they were at their time....

Me too, & I like to see how what we love about their dynamic was always kind of there, just in a more subtle way. It always seemed like we saw the best of Joey when it came to Rachel

^^ Me either. It just never occurred to me, and they always hammered "Ross & Rachel are endgame" in for us so much it was hard to picture anything else. When I rewatched the show a bit later in life Ross annoyed me more and more and J/R just felt SO right.
