Hi
Thank you for opening the thread, Sal. My best friend rented some Hitchcock movies. We've already seen Rope and we loved it. I didn't think the plot was all that interesting. Maybe it was my mood at the time. What I did like was the huge shots and the way the cuts between shots were "hidden". It's a smart movie. I'll watch North by Northwest soon. I've ben seeing movies by Vistor Sjostrom, a swedish director from the 20's. I loved He Who Gets Slapped, The Scarlett Letter and another movie he made in Sweden that I can't rememeber the title. I should look it up. __________________

Thanks for the new thread, Sal! Love the title.
Anabela - aww, Victor Sjöström. It's been ages since I saw any of his movies. Time to catch up on them again. __________________

Whoooh!! New thread Thanks for starting it Sal.
Dropping by briefly to say that I went to see Kiss Me Kate yesterday and it was fabulous All the songs from the film (it was well over a 3 hour show so they managed to fit everything in), and incredible leads taking Howard, Kathryn and Ann's roles. I think I fell in love with Tommy Rall's character And when I was looking in the programme afterwards it said that he had been invited to perform at an MGM gala celebration at the London Palladium where he got to partner Cyd Charisse. How fantastic is that! Tom, Dick or Harry and Too Darn Hot were of course my favourites but So In Love was gorgeous as well. And I Hate Men where the actress ended up practically throwing all the props across the stage And they actually had a merchandise store afterwards so I bought a t-shirt and a cd of the original Broadway recording. __________________

I missed The Wind , by Victor Sjostrom last week. I was going to go with a friend but then he said he couldn't go and I didn0't feel like going alone. But now I'm sorry I didn't go. I love Lillian Gish. __________________

Star your KMK sounds terrific! That's one I'd love to see done on the stage (In fact a friend and I have pretty much decided it's going to be done here next year and we're by now very convinced so will be very shocked if it isn't )
Imagine dancing with Cyd Did they have any songs in it that weren't in the film too? I love when that happens. Pretty much the entire of Broadway High Society is songs from other Cole Porter shows and maybe 4 from the actual film I haven't watched any films in ages though I do have many, many tapes piling up. Oh, but here's weird news: don't know if anyone watches Neighbours (did you mention it once Star or was that because your mum or someone else wanted to know what was going on? ) but anyway the cast of it are doing a one-off performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show which should be fantastic Albeit very, very strange. Must get back to essay! |

Sal - I'm the same with books as you are with films. The pile of unread books I have bought keeps growing and growing. And still I keep buying more. As for films, I'm a bit behind on those too, since I haven't had time to watch as much as I would have liked recently.
I have tried to make up for it a bit this morning though, by watching Frenzy. I stopped after about 20 min. though because I had troubles getting into the story. I am not sure if I'll start from scratch again, continue or just give up on it. We'll see. It had a different feeling to it than most other Hitchcock movies I've seen before, not sure if I imagine things? __________________

Star - Howard Keel died? So sad. I liked him.
Randa - yeah, that's my main problem with Frenzy too. It showed too much 'in the face' both with what you saw and what was talked about. One of Hitchcock's strongest abilities in his best movies are the subtle references. __________________

It was so weird, I was just finishing typing up my AGYG essay when my mum said that Howard Keel had died. Like right as I was writing about him

Yeah, its been a bad several weeks for some of my favorite classic movie actors...
I am actually very excited about this Monday, because 'Presenting Lily Mars' is coming on! I have never seen it, but I like Van Heflin, and everyone knows how much I adore Judy! Seeing them together, though... that will be interesting. Has anyone seen the movie before? __________________
