I really like that AH pointed out that Jack is the only person on the show who actually knows the relationship between little Amanda/Emily and David. I just hope he's right that Jack is going to be central to that storyline. I'm still wary about David coming back at all, but if they can get an interesting story out of it (especially one that includes Jack), then maybe it won't be that bad of an idea.


I think it's partially a stalling tactic, but I've also kind of come to the conclusion that it may be a really, really good thing for Jack/Emily if she gets with someone else in S4 before she gets with Jack.

I know, it sounds totally bizarre, but this is my thinking: when SN was giving those interviews last month about Jack and Emily bonding over the loss of Aiden, I had a weird feeling about it because I really didn't like the idea of them growing romantically closer because of her grief for Aiden. Jack/Emily are a lot more than that. Plus, I hate Aiden. So I want him and his memory as far away from Jack's relationship with Emily as possible.

Also, making Jack the very next guy she's with after she was with Aiden would have reinforced the idea some Aiden fans are pushing that Jack is some kind of runner-up or consolation prize or bed-warmer or whatever it is they want to think he is. And I don't think that's the perception that SN and the other writers want fans to have -- that Emily is only with Jack because Aiden died. That undermines what they've been trying to do with Jack/Emily since the pilot.

I imagine that Emily's next relationship will be full of moments where she's like "oh, this is the first time I've _________ since Aiden" (first laugh, first kiss, first date, first time having sex, etc.) And all of that would be tinged with sadness and guilt.

Well, now some other dude gets to deal with all of that. He can support her and tell her she doesn't have to feel guilty and that it's okay to love again, yadda yadda yadda. (Kind of like what Maragux did for Jack, come to think of it.)

In short, he can be her rebound...her real "consolation prize."

And I'm sure it'll all go really well for awhile...except she'll keep being drawn to Jack, who understands her in a way this new guy won't. And soon, instead of feeling guilty about moving on from Aiden, she'll feel guilty that she's really been in love with Jack this whole time.

And then she'll choose Jack, and their relationship won't be hampered by Aiden-baggage because the other dude will already have taken care of that.

How does that sound? Does that sound like it could work? Or am I being too optimistic?

I think that's a really good idea I wouldn't mind if it played out like that at all. It may be a little optimistic but I think it is also a realistic way of dealing with Aiden's death and Jack and Emily's relationship without undermining it. It is very similar to what they did with Margeux if Jack had got with Emily after Fauxmanda popped it it may have seem rushed where as by having him get with Margeux he dealt with the guilt with her thn came to the natural realisation it wasn't going to work and it has always been Emily in a way I think that was a better way of handling it then as a viewer we know it's not just a rebound thing (we know they are so much more than that anyway). From the way the producers talked recently it sounds like it's always been Jack and Emily Aaron Harberts as good as said they are THAT couple. Everything else has essentially just been obstacles and plot devices

I think so too. Initially, I was pretty horrified by the spoiler, but then when I looked at the interview quotes from the show-runners, the only thing that makes sense to me is that this new love interest will basically be here to bolster Jack/Emily by absorbing Emily's Aiden baggage.


Exactly. Back when Jack/Margaux was in progress, I was less than impressed by how fast they were moving, but looking at it in retrospect, it does make a certain amount of sense if the goal wasn't really making them a viable pairing, but rather as part of the process of getting Jack ready to be with Emily. Presenting Jack with such a commitment and having him realize it's not what he wants only strengthens the hold Emily has on his heart.


I love that they're being so open about Jack/Emily being end-game. I mean, we've known it (or at least, I've known it when I haven't been in a pessimistic mood ) and NW has alluded to it, but it's so refreshing to have them finally come out and say it, without all the BS about "which man will she choose?"

That quote about the last frame of the show? Swoon.

And what's nice is that they're out there saying all of this while they're actually in the process of writing S4. Everything they said at that panel was informed by the things they knew were happening at that moment in the writers' room.

Ugh have you guys heard about the new love interest according to TVLine he is an old friend of Jack's, ex military, suffering from PTSD he decides to stay in the Hamptons permanently after something life changing happens to Jack! What do you guys think? What do you reckon happens to Jack? I don't like the fact that he is supposed to be Jack's friend although I'm guessing he won't know Emily is Amanda so won't know what she means to Jack. I hope Jack will be okay hasn't he been through enough already give the guy a break!

I'm torn. On the one hand, I don't really like that Jack will have to watch his two childhood friends get together while he (I'm assuming) will just pine for Emily. I guess the writers figure that if Emily's new boyfriend is someone Jack cares about that Jack will be even more hesitant to reveal his feelings for her, thus dragging the story out further.

On the other hand, if he's a friend of Jack's that hopefully means more story/focus on Jack, and possibly on what growing up was like for him after little Amanda left the Hamptons.

I'm stumped on what the life-changing event could be. Anything could change Jack's life, but what would also cause his childhood friend to need/want to stay in the Hamptons? Maybe Jack goes to trial and the friend steps in to run the Stowaway and raise Carl while Jack can't?

Also, TVGuide had this to say in their latest spoiler column:

So are they insinuating that Jack's going to say he did it? I'm not sure why he can't just throw Aiden under the bus and say Aiden just stole his car and used it to return Charlotte. Granted, Charlotte probably remembers that Aiden was taller than Jack is, but a good lawyer could argue that she was so traumatized she wasn't really thinking clearly. And Charlotte knows Jack well enough that I think if she really sits down and thinks about it she'd realize he would never put her through that.

I'd take the spoiler of Emily's new love interest being a friend of Jack with a grain of salt. It doesn't make sense to me, why does Emily need a love interest so soon after Aiden anyway? Remember last season's spoilers never mentioned Margaux as Jack's love interest, if anything she was supposed to be Daniel's new love interest. I also remember a spoiler that said Sara was going to Jack's love interest.
