I love that even after Charles death, Erik does not forget him. He was the only person ever really mattered to him.

ITA, they did clash even in the beginning but they always had such a mutual admiration for each other and cared about each other deeply.

I love when we get to see them play chess, it's their thing.

It was so sad at the end of The Last Stand how Erik was sitting at a chess board by himself.

Erik never wanted Charles to die nor did he mean to paralyze him, both of which he was upset to see happen.

And considering the major differences they had, it goes to show just how strong their friendship was.

I never watched The Last Stand but that sounds like a really sad scene.

I think that despite their differences, part of them will always be so sad that their friendship ended because they really did care a lot for each other. And Erik never meant to hurt him, he was so devastated when Charles was shot down.
