I ship Joey/Chandler because:
 1. They hug or touch all the time (at least in the early seasons), and there's a sequence set to music in the Mac & C.H.E.E.S.E. clip show.
 2. Chandler's dad was in the closet for years after getting married, and Carol was too.
 3. Baywatch also has hot male lifeguards running around in swimsuits.
 4. Chandler pays for Joey's rent, food, acting lessons, head shots, and lots more. It's like a sugar daddy spoiling his houseboy.
 5. Joey kissed Chandler at New Year's.
 6. When Joey and Chandler buy the foosball table together, Joey gets jealous of Chandler's old roommate Kip.
 7. Joey shares a sofa-bed with Chandler and wants to get naked.
 8. Rachel has a sex dream about Joey and Chandler, and "sometimes it wasn't even me."
 9. Joey once dated and kissed a "woman" with a huge Adam's apple.
 10. When Chandler is afraid of dying alone like Mr. Heckles, he asks Joey to be his backup.
 11. Joey wants to know "what happens if you flick it?" (Chandler's nubbin).
 12. Caroline in the City mistakes them for a gay couple who adopted a baby, and they later pretend to be Ben's fathers at the Transit Authority.
 13. Sometime during season 2, Chandler jumps into Joey's arms and clings to him out of fear, and this scene is even put into the credits, but we never learn exactly when and why that scene takes place. (Nor can I find it in the uncut season 2 DVDs.)
 14. Joey buys Chandler engraved jewelry that repels women.
 15. Both Joey and Chandler know "the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash" in the shower.
 16. When Joey moves out, they both miss each other terribly, and Joey jealously demands to know whose eggs Chandler likes better.
 17. They hug and jump for joy after they kick Eddie out.
 18. In the uncut version of TOW Old Yeller Dies, after Monica and Richard leave, Chandler slaps Joey's arm, Joey slaps back, Chandler slaps again, then Joey slaps twice before running away. Chandler chases him into his bedroom and shuts the door.
 19. Joey endures a whole day with Janice just for Chandler.
 20. Joey and Chandler used Rachel's inflatable sheep for pillows when they went camping.
 21. "Look at me, I'm Chandler! Could I be wearing any more clothes? Maybe if I wasn't going commando..."
 22. When Joey builds the entertainment center, he's wearing his snug Sergio Valente jeans, and Chandler notices.
 23. Joey is "totally okay with the gay thing."
 24. Joey and Chandler discuss having a threesome with Chloe.
 25. They are like parents to the chick and the duck.
 26. Joey wants to play "one on one strip poker for practice" at the beach.
 27. When Joey buys an encyclopedia, he discovers that he's wearing Chandler's jeans.
 28. Joey enjoys ballroom dancing with Mr. Treeger.
 29. Joey dates Kathy, who is like a female version of Chandler.
 30. Chandler likes it "in the stern... of the boat."
 31. When Chandler refurnishes the apartment, Monica jokes, "Joey has the best boyfriend ever!"
 32. Chandler spends Thanksgiving in a box for Joey.
 33. When they have the free porn, Joey and Chandler watch In and Out... and In Again
 34. When Joey snores, Chandler rolls him over and finds him naked.
 35. Joey loves his man's bag.
 36. On the ride-along, Chandler gets jealous when Joey dives to save Ross (actually his sandwich) instead of him.
 37. Chandler helps Joey take a shower when he has a hernia.
 38. Joey cries his eyes out when Chandler decides to move in with Monica, and he mourns the end of an era.
 39. Joey says "How you doin'?" to Chandler.
 40. Joey loves all of Janine's girly stuff, and puts it in his room.
 41. In TO That Could've Been, Chandler becomes Joey's assistant and Monica says that he's Joey's bitch.
 42. Chandler envisions the future and wants Joey to live in an apartment over the garage.
 43. Chandler once kissed a guy in a bar in Atlantic City.
 44. Chandler used to undress his cousin Glenn.
 45. Everyone knows that Joey is an ass man.
 46. In the uncut version of the wedding, Joey says that he's "marrying my best friend. Isn't it beautiful"?
 47. Joey comes dressed as Chandler for the Halloween party.
 48. Joey cancels a date to be at Chandler's late bachelor party, and he misses how inseparable they used to be.
 49. Joey cries when Chandler leaves for Tulsa.
 50. At Richard's apartment, the real estate agent mistakes Joey and Chandler for a couple, and Joey is offended that Chandler denies it so strongly.
 51. Joey is always there with a bat when Chandler needs him.
 52. Chandler plucked Joey's eyebrows and curled his eyelashes.
 53. Joey can tell that Chandler's been having sex just by looking at his hair. "You're so lazy. Can't you get on top for once?"
 54. On lottery night, Joey wishes for Chandler to get the job.
 55. Chandler loved it when Joey touched his thigh.
 56. They are just so damn cute together!

Thanks for the replies! Did you guys both want to be on the list of Joey/Chandler shippers that I'm gonna keep? I'll edit the first post.

I didn't know there were Friends smilies. That was so cute. Thank you!

Welcome, FeLiNe Th0uGhTs! I added you to the list in the first post. What is your favorite Joey/Chandler moment from the show? I loved how happy they were after Joey moved back in and they got rid of Eddie.

I've written a new Joey/Chandler story called Trapped. It's rated R (Well, I think it doesn't go too far. Do you think it should be NC-17? Let me know.)

The story involves Ross and Rachel's breakup and a ski trip to Poconos.

You can read it at Forever Fandom or at Fanfiction.net.

I found this article on the New York Daily News.

Quote:

Chandler, we hardly knew ye

Vanity Fair's Graydon Carter has discovered "Gay TV."

The proliferation of homosexual themes on prime-time television - "with at least nine gay-centric shows" this season alone - is the slick mag's December cover, which features the stars of NBC's "Will & Grace," Bravo's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and Showtime's "Queer as Folk."

But an essay by Ned Zeman comes to the surprising conclusion that "TV's gayest show is, and always has been, 'Friends.' "

Zeman argues: "The hugely popular sitcom put a face on the love that dare not speak its name, starring those three lovably wisecracking girly-boys, Chandler, Ross and Joey, who favor pastel neckties, sweater-vests and hair products, and who spend their days lounging around a coffee bar, sharing muffins and lattes with the gals.

"That only the Friends themselves seem unaware of their obvious gayness says a little about them and a lot about the state of prime-time television, which is so steeped in gayness even the straight guys could go either way."

Zeman adds that one-time superagent Michael Ovitz was partly right when he famously complained about a "gay mafia" in Hollywood - though "it doesn't exist to foil embittered, old heterosexuals." Zeman's mafia includes producers Kevin Williamson of "Dawson's Creek," Dan Jinks of "American Beauty," Darren Star of "Sex and the City," Alan Ball of "Six Feet Under" and David Crane of "Friends."
If they're going to say that Friends is gay, they could at least mention real slashy moments instead of just implying that they're girly for drinking coffee with their friends.

At least mention the kissing, hugging, and other touching they've done. The sex jokes, and the jealousy plotlines, and the longing looks of love between Joey and Chandler. Even mention Joey and Ross's nap or something.

Oh, I just found a link to
the full article, which seems more balanced. There's even mention of Joey caressing Chandler's thigh in the episode TOW Ross's Tan.

Where did you go? As a slash fan I am eager to see the slash threads do well.

Marylou 04-24-2004 08:47 AM

Oh, you started the thread! I had read that you wanted too and I'm really glad that you did. Add me in that list of yours please!

I have read some of your fics and found them very interesting. I was originally hooked in the Friends slashiness not because of Chandler/Joey though, but because of Ross/Joey in "TO with the nap partners"

you know, I was surprised at how accurate your list of reasons is. They seem more than a real couple to me than Chandler/Monica.

Cress 04-29-2004 03:00 PM

Oh, hi guys! Well, nobody but me had posted to the thread in a long time, so I thought it was dead. And I got busy and couldn't come to the boards as much.

Thanks for showing up! I'll add you to the list right after this, MaryLou. If you like Ross/Joey slash, there are other moments in the show for them. Like in season 1, Joey teaches Ross how to talk dirty and Joey says, "Tell me you want to caress my butt!" And in season 2, Ross kisses Joey for the gay kissing audition, only to find out that he was too late. And of course the fake kiss in early season 10.

Cress 04-30-2004 12:55 PM

Okay, I'm trying not to let this thread just fade away again, so we need to start some kind of regular discussion here.

Does anybody want to start discussing their favorite J/C moments? If you can't think of any, just look at my long list and pick out which moments you personally found most touching, funny, slashy, etc. If I've missed anything, feel free to point it out too.

Or should we start a quotes game? Trivia about Friends? Discussion about who makes a better couple, Ross/Chandler, Ross/Joey, or Joey/Chandler? Opinions about the Joey spinoff? Do you think Chandler will guest star? Is there any hope of them getting together? I'm open to any suggestions.

Overall, I'm upset about this upcoming Friends finale and if no discussion is stirred here, I guess I will be comforting myself with watching season 2 DVDs for all the Joey/Chandler moments.

I'm reposting my message from Saturday, which got lost in the new forum transfer.

On a Dateline special last night, there was a segment on the end of Friends and the beginning of Joey. David Crane, one of the creators of Friends, said that Joey and Chandler are "one of the great romances" of Friends.

Also, they showed a clip from Joey, where Joey's sister Gina thinks that Joey and Chandler are a gay couple. What does it say that his own sister--his sister who surely knows how many women Joey has slept with--thinks that Joey and Chandler are gay?

Why, oh, why couldn't they have got together on the show? I mean, I'd even settle for just a passionate kiss that was a dream, a joke, or a imaginary sequence like they've done with Joey and Ross. Why not? The show became a virtual soap opera with tangled, near-incestuous relationships and pointless love triangles, so why can't I have a passionate, slashy kiss? Why the hell not?![/end rant]

...Okay, okay, I'll calm down now. I'm just bitter.

Rivulet027 05-22-2004 06:32 PM

I have to say I'm not a big Friends fan, I never really got too into it. I've seen a few episodes though, including the one that inspired the title and I have to agree they both come off as totally slashy.
