True. I don't know whether it makes it easier to renew the show if it's slated for midseason but normally networks put it in the fall and couple it with a show that has good demos.

I love couples that flirt with each other, it's so cute. I love Michael and Maria's flirting, especially when they both were acting like they didn't want the other. They knew they had it bad for the other.

Interviewer: What did they tell you going in about the love stories because you have two very…fans are obsessed with both of the love stories your character is in. Did they tell you that right at the beginning? Like here are your two stories that you’re going to be like–on top of this alien twist that is literally the whole story.

Vlamis: I know.

Interviewer: You’re also going to be involved in two very emotional love stories.

Vlamis: Yeah, it’s a little crazy. I knew that Michael was going to be romantically involved with Alex and Maria. I did know that. I didn’t know if it was going to be with Maria the second episode. I didn’t know if Alex was going to be gone then. So we just went episode by episode, and, yes, they gave me a little bit of a breakdown of how the season would go, but–Carina and I, we talked about this last night actually. We’re on a need-to-know basis because sometimes if you know too much as an actor you’re like playing that or thinking about that when you’re performing and in real life I don’t know that you double-crossed me so that shouldn’t be in the back of my mind, right? So we kind of keep it on need-to-know but the amount of I think just romance I had in the show was pretty ridiculous.

Interviewer: Yeah, the fans alone. And I know you and I have talked about this but like they are so invested in these love stories especially Malex.

Vlamis: I love it. I love it so much.

Interviewer: We assume we’re going to see a lot more from Michael and everything that’s going on next season. What ship are you hoping takes the lead?

Vlamis: I’m hoping the one that my character needs right now, and I definitely think that’s Maria. I mean people were so upset when I chose Maria at the end of the show and you know what? I’m going to say this candidly, Alex was a dick. I can be a jerk. I can, you know, I can push buttons, but my intentions–I was always there for the most part, and he always found a way to walk away, the line from the show. But then, you know, when I walk away I’m the bad guy, you know? And that’s not the case. Let the guy be happy.

Vlamis: It’s not like Alex is gone. Who knows what can happen with an old flame? But I think right now Michael needs Maria in his life, and honestly I don’t know if that’s what’s going to happen in season 2. But it felt like the way it ended and my character being happy and playing guitar for this woman and also that’s the first time he’s playing guitar since the hand heal. So now he probably kind of correlates the first time back with guitar being with Maria. I don’t know, you know, that’s just some other character thoughts, but yeah, I think he needs a little bit of Maria.

Interviewer: Totally. I mean I want to hang out with her all the time.

Vlamis: Of course.

Interviewer: She’s like one of my favorite parts of the show to be honest with you. I love her so much.

Vlamis: I love Heather Hemmens.
