That absolutly could be right, and Debby probably never told him the truth. in his eyes Danny knocked her up and left..

a parent always should have the choice if he wants to be in his childs life.. some will take the way out and others will surprise with being happy to be a mom/dad.

I'm not sure if she was so much scared of Michael leaving her. I think it was doubtful he would do it... but who knows. We can only guess what she was thinking.
But in my opinion based of who she was I think she liked the idea she told Michael. She sold him kind of fairytale. And it leads me to thinking why Michael never asked more about his dad? I mean a lot of kids, most of them is asking a lot about missing parent. When they start to see what they missing. It's natural and normal. How episode go and end makes me wonder if Michael ever really asked about his dad.

Debbie could consider her ex as some liar or was ashamed of himself, of how naive she was (even if it wasn't true or the point). She could feel rejected, even if she let him go. In the end she choose easier way for her, but not for Michael or Danny.

It's very likely Vic knew or suspected.
