Sia, your last two posts I had to merge because we cannot double post, but it's still there.

I must say your insights into the character's minds and actions this season are exceptional. You really have given us a new perspective to consider, one that is varied from what we are used to hearing/reading. I want to thank you so much for spoiling us with your amazing thoughts on the show.

I can definitely understand your perception of what Cowlip intended for Brian's isolation upon the show's end. Sure it was painful watching these two lovers part after five or so years together, but like certain things in real life... everything we love may not always be good for us if we become too fixated upon it. Though they are not permanently split up and will continue seeing each other for the rest of their lives. I think that's what the writers of show were trying to convey. And there was certainly more to the story than just Brian and Justin. I can remember watching the finale for the very first time, and when Brian was up there dancing alone, I felt this overwhelming sense of victory. The fact that Brian revived Babylon after the bombing is within its self a declaration of victory, a tribute to gay empowerment.

The fact that Proud was played here as it was in the pilot suggests that the theme of this show (which is love and pride) has come full circle and correlates to all of the gay community as a whole. Pride is something we all need to keep our heads up and be strong, and that is certainly what Brian needed during this time. He doubled as a symbol for pride as he danced through the pain, as members of the gay community have to when faced with aversion from their society.

Wow, Sia, you really brought up some amazing point of views

In my eyes you are completly right about seeing the whole end scene from a different ancle. Fresh eyes can help to open up for other insights

To see Vrian lying there in bed naked andcalone as a symbol for finding his own peace and accepting his vulnerability, I wouldn't have thought of this. Obviously I was too caught by just the lovestory..

I will have to read your post a few more times when I'm back from cacation tomorrow to answer it prperly

I'm glad you came here to share your point of viwes with us here

Maybe we can talk with you in the other season threads too, about your point of views

We definitely accept any and all open discussion on a wide range of topics. As we all know, there is no one good angle from which to approach this show because it presses on many issues and aspects of the human condition that we can all identify with and have such strong feelings about.

The moment Justin vanishes from underneath Brian is a very powerful one. I cannot quite put my finger on it why that is so intense, but it definitely has something to do with Brian having to accept changes to his life without Justin there.

I was thinking though...if it wasn't meant completely for Brian to be alone, then why did Mel and Lindsay take Gus away too?

I think writers wanted to leave Brian "alone" in the end intentionnally. Justin and Gus leaving according to me symbolize that by 513 Brian learnt to love, learnt to be both good partner and good father and he loved them both so much that he was able to let them go, knowing it will cause him pain. Its demontration how much Brian grew up, its highest form of love, selfless love, letting Justin and Gus go while being attached to them most than he ever was before. And it was full circle, writers made everything in 513 full circle. Both Justin and Gus came to Brians life on same day in first episode, this day transformed him forever "and thats when it happened", and both left the same day in the last episode. But most importantly Brian is alone only physically, emotionally he is more connected and alive than ever because for first time he is opened fully to love, to his feelings, embraces them. Before his heart was closed, under control - he was refusing any sort of deep emotional attachement and there is nothing more isolating in this world than empty or closed heart, feeling unloved and not loving. He managed to live sucessfully but was surviving rather than fully living, was in state of limbo. So although he is now physically alone, his heart is full, overflowing with love and it will keep him going. And I believe he is even more happy than in first episode because he is fullfilled. Yes his heart is bleeding and he is in pain but thats part of love and he needed to embrace this phase in his journey of self-discovery also. He did not lose neither Justin nor Gus, their love endures no matter what, time does not matter and distance does not matter and as we all know they will see each other again.

Wow, Sia , I'm speechless and you make me cry with your explanation

You have such a wonderful way to put that into words I haven't really realised, that they both left on the same day, and that it so makes perfect sense for the end, seen from that point of few, cause they started the show with both coming into brians life the same day.. and to see Brian as the one, grown up enough to love so much to let them both leave.. just ..

You are amazing and make the end for me a bit more bareable

Justin's love definitely touched him in a way that nobody's ever could before. Brian experienced what it's like to love and be love and that's certainly will stay with him indefinitely.
