I think one part of those two becoming close friends was the fact, that Brian was always honest with him, and could judge his knowledge and talent.
and it was so great to see Ted getting better and become more selfconfident with each day.. many people don't make it there... __________________

In this clip, it sounds like Ted learned how to give a pep-talk from Brian.
