If we're still in present days then Gas should be 11 yrs old ( he was born in late August - early September of 2001 ) and take it from me, 11 year old boys are not into writing diaries these days lol
I do hope he didn't stay in Canada too long, though, but that's a whole different discussion

I think it's because the characters were real. We could all relate to them.
Plus the way Brian interacted with Gus in S4 (when Gus was about 3 yrs old ) was really so honest and heartfelt

and btw- my nephews are the same exact age as Gus and JR

Personally, I love fics that are enough into the future to have Gus as a teenager already. I like to read about Brian interacting with a teenage Gus

I love that we got to see him interacting with Gus during S4 even if the circumstances were not always happy and carefree.
