Season 3 discussion #2: On reunions and evil politicians

If you aren't spoiled and haven't seen the episodes beyond Season 3, then this thread is perfect for you. Discuss away! ;)

galesgirl645 01-19-2007 03:55 PM

:yay: new thread

~DresdenDoll~ 01-21-2007 08:36 AM

ok so what do you want to discuss?

Aikaterini 01-21-2007 10:06 AM

The closing down of the backroom! :smirk:

Okay, okay, I'll try to think of something better. :P

~DresdenDoll~ 01-21-2007 10:29 AM

Heee we can always talk about Mel's elephant like long pregnancy :lmao:

galesgirl645 01-21-2007 12:43 PM

haha yeah that was one long pregnancy

~DresdenDoll~ 03-03-2007 09:18 AM

Looks like Mel's alien pregnancy killed this thread :lmao:

CleverDevil 03-03-2007 11:51 AM

How long lastet her pregnancy? 10 month? 11?

What about Stockwell? Don't get me wrong, I think he's completely disagreeable person, but I wonder about his motivations. Do you think he was a homophob and wanted to see them all dead, like Justin put it, or did he just pick on the guys of Liberty Av. in order to win the election?

~DresdenDoll~ 03-03-2007 12:05 PM

A year at least if we consider one season=one year but considering CowLip screwing the timeline who knows for sure

See that's another character that confuses me. Because I honestly don't think he was as bad as Justin said he was. He was probably just as homophobic as Carl was in the beginning - the kind of homophobia that comes out of lack of any contact with gay community, general ignorance or just stereotyped image but since he was playing in politics he thought a "family friendly" campaign would appeal to the voters. I don't think he was a homophobe of the worst kind aka religious fanatics.

CleverDevil 03-03-2007 12:55 PM

I totally agree, Do  I'm just thinking of the scene after he got to know about Brian's sexual preferences. I didn't get the impression he fired him, because of the fact he was gay, but rather because he was afraid it could have a negative impact on his oh-so-precious campaign. And he reinstated Brian as soon as he could use him for his intentions. Would a fanatic homophobe of the worst kind really do something like that?

galesgirl645 03-03-2007 01:00 PM

I agree he might've been ignorant of what goes on in the gay community.

Honestly I have no idea. Thankfully I have never met one ;) But you know I don't think he really cared that much about Brian's sexual orientation. From what we've seen I'd say that the only thing he really cared about was his campaign. He'd pretty much do anything to win this thing and if it had to include mixing with minorities then so be it... And the "because he's a fag" comment... well IMO it's not more insulting and prejudiced than Carl's "we've got a Jane Doe"

galesgirl645 03-06-2007 02:48 PM

heh yeah he just wanted to win the election no matter what.

ITA  And in a way Stockwell was right ;) How little did he know to believe Brian would be like Tannis and Phillip

If I remember correctly the drug incident at Babylon was the catalyst for the 'family-friendly-Pittsburgh' campaign. Do you think Stockwell would have gone about this the same way if it happened in a straight dance club?

~DresdenDoll~ 03-07-2007 03:50 PM

Such things happen in straight clubs just as often as in gay ones, it's not a question of sexual orientation but of the club scene in general. It's just easier to point out the minority to be the problem... I guess he wouldn't even know if something like that happened in a straight club. I don't see people reporting this to him to use as an argument in his campaign.

galesgirl645 03-07-2007 04:10 PM

he just went with whatever made the news

CleverDevil 03-07-2007 04:29 PM

You're right. That makes it a discrimination of a minority. And he did imply that Liberty Avenue was a threat to the so-called 'respectable citizens'. I don't see that. I think LibAv wasn't an area with a lot of crime (okay, apart from the drug use - but as you said, Do. That happens in straight clubs as well). In fact violence came always from the outside.

galesgirl645 03-07-2007 04:35 PM

 liberty avenue was just like any other community except that just because it was where the majority of the people who lived there were gay it was all of sudden the place of sin and where crimes happened.

~DresdenDoll~ 03-11-2007 09:08 AM

Well it was a very easy way to gain votes of the conservative citizens.

~DresdenDoll~ 03-19-2007 08:55 AM

Looks like I killed the thread

So Mel's pregnancy anyone? :lmao:

Aikaterini 03-19-2007 12:16 PM

You just killed it, because I don't really like to talk about politics.

Erm...you mean the elephant pregnancy?! :goof:

galesgirl645 03-19-2007 12:46 PM

we're still on mel's pregnancy? :lmao:

~DresdenDoll~ 03-19-2007 01:49 PM

Hey it's always fun to talk about her pregnancy :lmao:

galesgirl645 03-19-2007 01:56 PM

I guess :lmao:

Aikaterini 03-20-2007 09:21 AM

Since they've showed 3x09 here yesterday, I remembered something. While Mel is cooking, Lindsay comes in with a bottle of white wine for the food and Mel pours a little of it into the pan. Now, isn't it that pregnant women shouldn't drink any alcohol at all? This is what I keep hearing all the time and then there comes a QaF episode with Mel putting some wine in their food?! o.O
