Season 2 discussion #20: The first cut is the deepest

Copy that from the old thread:

Right, I had forgotten that completely. They didn't talk about the cheating though, did they? I don't remember anything like that.
There was no cheating during that time and as much as I remember, Daphne didn't appear again after that. I just remember that she liked what she saw when they met Ethan, which is why I do not like or understand her reaction to him in the early Season 3.

tftnt :)

maybe Daphne liked Ethan the first time she saw him and maybe she even toyed with the idea of Justin having a little love affair, I think once she got to know Ethan later on she realized, sooner then Justin did, that Ethan wasn't the right guy for Justin, despite his romantic gestures.

At first glance Ethan is a likable guy but when you get to meet him you start seeing that he's arrogant.

WildRose 12-14-2011 11:43 AM

Plus Ethan was young(er) then Brian, so it made sense for Daphne to think he was 'cute' at first, but she was smart, she knew it wasn't enough for Justin.

I think maybe Daphne had no problem with Justin having sex with Ethan, she knew Brian and Justin were not monogamous. Probably it became different when Justin left Brian and got with Ethan. I think there were things that Justin had to do while being with Ethan, that Daphne didn't like. Most of all, the fact he had to go back into the closet when it came to Ethan's career. She even mentioned it. She really didn't understand and like that.

*lol* And what is Brian...?

Manu9 12-14-2011 01:54 PM

I can't contraddict you on this, Brian was definitely arrogant too, at times. I do think that he managed to be more charming in doing so though

Brian was arrogant but he had reasons to be this way... Brian was successful at his job and charming... Ethan was none of those things and yet he was arrogant and yes I know he was only a student and was barely starting his career but for that reason I think should've been less arrogant.

I think he was being more rude than Ethan by being arrogant.
Ethan loved to speak about his music and how he started playing, etc. etc. So he loved to speak about himself. Brian barely did that.

I feel different about Ethan. I think he is quite a likeable guy. The problem is that we see him as competition for Brian and the fact that he broke up B/J. I don't think his more arrogant than Justin, who is more or less the same age as Ethan. That's just how he is. I think he handled the situation quite when Brian lured him into the diner, knowing that Justin will pitch eventually. I like it that he didn't want to play Brian's game.

As for Daphne, I totally get why she was not happy with Ethan. As soon as she realised this was something serious, she spoke her mind because she knows how important Brian is for Justin. If he was just a friend of Justin, she would have been happy to incorporate him into their circle.

Completely and 1000% agree with this

I think if we got to know him in different circumstances, without B/J, we would have like him. We would have fawned :) over his musical talent and his wit and would have admired the way he used every inch of an opportunity to make a living out of his passion.

soulmatejunkee 12-15-2011 04:59 AM

I already said that in the B/J thread last week

He was only there for 10 episodes and he barely got a character. Under different circumstances and if he would've stayed for longer... I'm sure there would've been more fans for him. But so he always had to hold up to Brian - who after 2 years practically had 80% of the fanbase on his side  - and didn't stand a chance.

I liked Ethan, too, a lot

Manu9 12-15-2011 06:12 AM

With all respect, I have to disagree. Why is it so hard to accept that there are people who didn't like Ethan for who he was and not because of what he was or meant in relation to Brian? I'm sure many people saw him as competition for Brian and didn't like him for that, but personally I never considered him a competitor and my reasons for not liking him only are in the person he was and his looks, which is part of the character anyway. And like me, I think there are other people who just didn't like him regardless of Brian. Let's not make things black and white ;)

Sorry Gemstone, but while I often agree with you, in this case I can't. I would have never fawned over Ethan, he's just not my type, starting from the fact I don't find him cute
