His character Prior has AIDS so as the play progresses he would have to be shown as losing weight. I think he purposely lost some weight but, in a close look at some of the photos of Prior in the hospital bed I think I can detect make-up lines that under the stage lighting make him look gaunt.

It is always impressive what make up can do

Thanks for the collage Mark, it looks like an incredibly intense role.

It's amazing makeup and truly makes him look gaunt and unwell.

I'm so happy for him.

I believe he is resting between acts.

Mark...that collage is absolutely gorgeous!

First review

SanFrancisco Chronicle

https://www.sfchronicle.com/performa...n-12873328.php

Harrison’s Prior comes alive when he becomes a prophet, when all his queenly sass and worldly, sardonic sangfroid don’t work and aren’t the point anymore. There’s more in him now than the fear of the beyond, the despair and fury at abandonment by Louis. He’s acquired a quiet but implacable grace, standing up to the Angel and her prophecy. It’s a grace that doesn’t need to insist on itself. He has seen the divine, and he chooses instead to be human and mortal and alive for now, with all its “intestinal” filth, its fathomless cruelty. But he has chosen, and so we must as well.

I am not surprised he needs a sleep - it must be exhausting both physically and emotionally to do this show - and cause we know he would put everything into it and be amazing!

I'm thinking about a new title but in the meantime here are two more reviews

Theatre Eddys: "Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes"

Prior Walter is a thirty-year-old, New York gay man whose four-plus-year relationship with Louis Ironson in essence comes to an end when he reveals to Louis “the wine-dark kiss of the angel of death” on his arm – in other words, “lesion number one” of his AIDS. Louis immediately freaks out and begins his exit, while still professing how much he loves Prior. Their individual stories are one thread of many to be woven in this Angels quilt about to spread before us, and both Randy Harrison as Prior and Benjamin T. Ismail as Louis are exceptional in their individual portrayals. Each will go through trials and agonies that will rip in different ways at our heart’s chords: Prior, as his body deteriorates in inhumanly cruel seizures both physical and mental; and Louis, as his increasing guilt for abandoning the one he loves will lead him too quickly to jump into another relationship with someone who is opposite of him in almost every thing he values.

Hymns of praise for Kushner’s Angels at Berkeley Rep | Chad Jones' Theater Dogs
As Prior Walter, Randy Harrison finds his own ferocity and warmth, especially in his scenes with his best friend Belize, the quick-witted nurse (played by Caldwell Tidicue, probably better known as Bob the Drag Queen, the Season 8 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Rqce).
