Well, I think the possibility of having a UK and US graphic was talked about...but there wasn't enough room or something like that. Plus, there's only a couple of us that actually talk about the original show.

I'd post pictures but can't get into my magestation account...browser problems. I have pictures up on the S/V thread though.

Image Station is back up again. Faster than I thought they would be. Cool!

And now some cast pictures

From the wonderful and all knowing XOF:

Aidan Gillen Mentions in "Shanghai Knights" reviews -

http://www.the-trades.com/column.php?columnid=1590

"Special notice needs to go to Aidan Gillen, who plays Rathbone with just
the right amount of evil snobbishness that it is almost gleeful. He
particularly shines during a sword fight with Chan later in the film, and
outperforms the star at his own game." - The Trades
http://www.flickfilosopher.com/flick...iknights.shtml

"Rathbone, the lord who stole the Chinese thing in a plot to do something
evil, is played by Aidan Gillen, who is badass with a sword and has
apparently discovered hair gel in the 19th century but is also really cute
in that silly- movie- bad- guy way, with the great wardrobe and the snooty
accent, and has the possible potential to ascend to the ranks of Current
Boyfriend one day." - (((HEEHEEEEEE))) - the flick filosopher
http://www.reeltalkreviews.com/brows...=review&id=388

"Wang and Roy (Wilson) travel to England with plans to avenge the murder of
Wang’s father by the dastardly Lord Rathbone (Aidan Gillen), who – in
appearance – could be Josh Groban’s evil twin. " (((SNICKER...hehehe, now
that's funnnnnnnnnnnnnny.))) - Reeltalkreviews

http://www.darkhorizons.com/reviews/shang2-n.htm

"Fann Wong makes a likable tough female lead as Chan's sister whilst Aidan
Gillen, still the best actor out of all versions of the "Queer as Folk"
series, makes a superb snarling British villain and excellent evil foil -
far more than Donnie Yen as his disappointing co-conspirator." - Dark
Horizons
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/review/...anghaiknights,

"Lord Rathbone, a sinister British meanie behind the murder, is fun to watch
if only for the odd thrill of seeing the striking Irish actor Aidan Gillen
ditch his reputation as the snake-cold star of the BBC's ''Queer as Folk''
for that of a sneering action-flick baddie." - EW (Entertainment Weekly)
http://www.eonline.com/Reviews/Facts...,88012,00.html

"The martial-arts master and wisecracker Owen Wilson are back in the saddle
for a British invasion to avenge the murder of Chan's father and reclaim
China's imperial jewel, swiped by sneering, over-moussed Aidan Gillen." -
E-Online (((Ouch)))

"But when it comes to the crucial kung fu and sword fight scenes, "Knights"
features some of Chan's best work in the past few years. Both Gillen and
Donnie Yen are effective as foes not to take lightly." - HollywoodReporter

"....an English lord, Rathbone (Aidan Gillen, sliding neatly into the
sadistic fop role mostly recently the preserve of Gary Oldman)." - LA Times

""Shanghai Knights" sags a bit in the middle, and the bad guys aren't
terribly menacing until Rathbone picks up a sword toward the end." - NYPost

"As the nefarious Lord Rathbone, Aidan Gillen delivers appropriate sneers
and looks like a younger, meaner Alec Baldwin." - (((NEVER!!!

"a British villain named Rathbone who's a mean man with a sword (Aidan
Gillen)," - The Charlotte Observer
http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/living/5127078.htm

"The villain is played by Aidan Gillen, who is his own sort of movie
homage - an unholy cross between Ed Burns and Alec Baldwin, displaying the
kind of explosive narcissism that such a combination might produce.
His character is one Lord Rathbone, sometimes referred to by Wilson as
"Rathboner," which should give you an idea of what kind of humor to
expect." - Philly Daily News
http://www.mervius.com/movies/2003/shanghai_knights.htm

"Aidan Gillen and Donnie Yen are the two really impressive bad guys. They
have menacing presence and hold their own in their battles with Chan." -
Fantastica Daily

Russel T Davies just premiered a new series in England called "The Second Coming"

Here's a lil' review by a pal of mine:

Well - I'm at a bit of a loss really lol. I think that has to go down
as one of the most bizarre, most ballsy, most "are you ****ting me?"
television shows I've seen in a while. *ahem*. I hope Russell is
prepared for this one - the backlash is bound to be immense.

First of all, the show has a marvellous cast - including Denise
Black, aka Hazel, as a University Professor. The main character,
Steve is played by Chris Eccles (I think that's his name), and he's
bloody marvellous - I watched him in "Cracker" for a number of years
opposite Robbie Coltraine, and again in this show, his acting skills
were incredibly convincing.

It's basically about this ordinary bloke called Steve, who suddenly
realises that he is the son of God. Now Steve is *really* ordinary.
He doesn't have any educational qualifications, he works in a video
rental shop, he's absolutely working class, and *wabam*, just like
that, he's claiming to be the Son of God. I don't want to give too
much away, but this big miracle happens when Steve puts his best
mate's sunglasses on in the middle of a football stadium in
Manchester, and all of a sudden there's proof (absolute proof) that a
mega miracle occured. Of course the world goes bananas, and Steve
starts preaching. Heaven is empty, hell is full at the seems, and all
human beings are a bunch of "cheeky bastards", and "stupid people",
and the world is just one ginat **** up.

Throw in another miracle, the dodgy video-dating bloke (who's also a
demon of some kind), the lovely gay boys who have a go at the Son of
God because Jesus doesn't talk about homosexuality in the bible (it's
okay with Jesus by the way - wheeee), all these other scary devils,
who are evil, and attach themselves to lost souls, and who have
totally freaky, absolutely spine chilling shiny eyes (when they go
all evil), Steve's bunch of rag and tag mates as his desciples,
(including his best mate Judith, who's had a run in with the evil
demon people), some hilarious one-liners (the Catholic church is
going to throw a fit), the mysterious police chief, and more mobile
phone adventures, and that about sums it up. Briefly lol.

I couldn't make up my mind whether Russell is seriously taking the
piss, or genuinely attempting to ask the question "what if God,
Jesus, the whole shebang was real?" And what would we as human
beings - as the world do?

Whatever it is, it was bloody funny, very chilling in parts, very
amusing, and marvellously acted on all parts. The man has balls.
Period.

!!! This site has grown since the last time I visited!
And the address had change and then I had to refind all my links
http://www.manchester.com/

Gay Village Bars
If that link does not take you to there~

"Manchester AD Club & Bar News" --> "Manchester after dark" --> "Bar by Location" --> "Gay Village"

Thanks for the reviews "MichaelsPatience" I wasn't going to go see "Shanghi Knights" until it came to cable or to DVD but now I will. Also I wander if "flick filosopher" knows that there was hair gel in the 19th century? Yeah, it was a mixture of paraffin and lard. I mean yuck! But it existed.

at Russell T Davies he always seems to still up controversy. But he is right Jesus did not say a word about homosexuality and I believe; not that I want to preach, that there is even one story where he aided a Roman guard and his lover.

Ugh, how could they not let Aidan's curls reign free in this movie? Idiots! Still...the man looks good gelled and slicked up.

By all means, preach! No one here will mind, I don't think. Yep, have been hearing nothing but great reviews about Russell's new show from everyone. Sounds good!

I'm definitely going to be seeing Shanghai Knights, sometime in the next 2 weeks when I have the time...how can I pass up the chance to see Aidan Gillen larger than life? It's SO rare for him to be in a movie that gets played here in the US...I can't miss the chance.

Okay. Here we go. Squee! I'm still so excited that I finally got to see it. Anyway.

Stuart...eh. He was okay, I guess. He was a little shorter than I was thinking. <insert grin smilie> But I like the actor, so it's all good.

Vince...holy hell, I LOVED Vince. He MADE the show for me. How could you not love him? Best scene in the whole thing was about ten minutes into the first one. When Vince was all "Oh-my-god. Oh...my GOD." Cracked me up. I think I rewound it about five times.

Nathan...I didn't like him so much in the beginning. Annoying. And I never really got the "I love Stuart sooooo much" vibe. Liked him, sure. But I never bought the love thing. But towards the end he started growing on me.

Hazel...I actually liked her. A lot. She was just so...cool.

Donna...could NOT understand a *word* she said. It all kinda joined together and just sounded like mumbling to me. Like Jamie said, we needed subtitles for when she spoke. <insert grin smilie>

The lesbians...I really liked Lisa. Romy...not so much. But, well...nevermind. I'll leave it at that. Lisa was pretty awesome, though. She wasn't as bitchy as Melanie, but still had the snarkiness. And the baby...I thought that hat was so adorable on him!! Alfred! That was his name, right? Maybe? I don't know. But he was a cutie.

All the other boys just confused me. I got that Phil (?) was basically Ted. Sucked that he died. Alexander (?) was essentially Emmett. And, when he first came around, I did NOT like him. He seemed...not cool. Kinda mean to everyone he didn't know. Almost *too* flamboyant. But I started liking him a little at the end, too. And I have no clue who the other dark haired guy was. The one that fell from outside the window. Or something. I think. Give me a break here, I've only seen it once. <insert grin smilie>

Now, as for the storylines...I was SO surprised to see how much the NA version took. I was under the impression that it was just the first three episodes. But, hell. They had stuff going into, like, episode 116 or something. I mean, it wasn't all canon. But little parts here and there were strewn into them. It was interesting to be able to compare the two.

I totally fell for Stuart/Vince. Mainly 'cuz I love Vince so much. <insert wink smilie> But I didn't like the ending. At ALL. I thought it was cute when they were, like, walking together and stuff. They held hands for a while, right? But then, the whole pulling out of the gun...kinda stupid. But Vince made it bearable. <insert grin smilie> I just didn't like how it ended. They could have done something different to make it more...interesting? Entertaining? I don't know.

But overall...I highly enjoyed it. **loves Bunny forever and ever** I'm still a sucker for the NA version...being that I saw it first and everything. But if I ever have about a thousand dollars to spare, I'll definitely buy the DVDs. They're so expensive!

Wow. I think that's the longest post I've ever written.

**is proud**

Mmmm, Aidan

Isn't he great? I admit, when I first saw it I was too busy blushing and swooning over seeing Aidan Gillen for the first time in *years* that I didn't pay much mind to Vince for a bit. But once I got over my Aidan excitement...I fell in love with Vince.

GREAT scene...the look on his face when the guy is sniffing himself..ew!

Quote:
Nathan...I didn't like him so much in the beginning.
Ya, I didn't even begin to like him till AFTER the birthday party. By series 2, I loved him.

Quote:
Hazel...I actually liked her. A lot. She was just so...cool.
How can ya not? I kinda like her way more than Debbie

Quote:
Donna...could NOT understand a *word* she said.
That's hilarious. I talk to a girl who lives in England, and she told me that SHE couldn't understand Donna when she saw the series years ago!

Good point about the subtitles, I am going to copy this for my 2 friends and have told them I will send crip sheets along with the videos so they can decipher what everyone is saying. I also told them to watch with no distractions and the volume turned up, because when these people start to speak in a low voice you can't understand anything.

Although, I really didn't have much trouble understanding what they were saying...I just didn't get what they MEANT!

As for "the lesbians"...which is now what I'll forever call Mel and Linds. I liked them, they were alright. And yes, Alfred was the baby...after Bruce Wayne's butler.

Really? I LOVED Alexander the moment he walked down that hallway. He was kinda bitchy, but I loved him and his "fly, my pretties, fly!" at the end of series 2.

Quote:

Don't feel badly, he wasn't even in it all that much. That was Dane, a friend of Alexander's I have learned. I liked him...all morose and despressed. He pops up in most S/V fics.

Quote:

Wasn't it though? The foundation was the same but basically, nothing else is. I love them both, but like you, I saw the US version first and that was what I fell in love with.

Good..now go read fics!

I have heard quite a few people say they didn't care for the ending much. It was kinda odd to see, I didn't really get it until we created the Stuart and Vince yahoo group and started talking about the show and the ending..and I came to realize it was all about symbolism. So, as silly as it seemed to me the first time..I've come to love the ending very much.

Good and they are. I forget where I got mine, but I got series 1 and 2 for less than $90...deepdiscountdvd.com or TLAvideo...not sure which. But definitely don't go somplace where you have to buy them seperately.

The best TV series you'll probably never see.
Where did I read that? Can't remember. But hey, it's true!
We don't have it here in Germany. Can anybody tell me why???
It was like an accident that I found QAF on the internet. And I haven't seen one single episode yet. But I've read some stuff. I think I'll really love Vince. I ordered the DVD at amazon a few days ago. Hope the postman rings quite soon I still hope that I'll understand it though.

"the best tv series you'll probably never see" was the slogan they were using when they first made QaF. I think they had it on advertisements, etc. Not too sure.

You won't regret buying the dvd's..they are SO worth it.

My suggestion? Turn it up, loudly. Sometimes a few of the character either talk fast or so low I couldn't understand what they were saying....and it was already bad enough I didn't understand some of the British slang!
