Queer as Folk Finale - How would YOU end the show?

Well, as we all know our beloved show is coming to an end this Sunday (I still can’t really believe it). So I thought that I’d open up this thread to see how you all would like to see the show end. Or how you think the show is going to end.

Anything goes. For example, it is finally revealed that Debbie is actually a man in a drag and is, in fact, Michael’s real father. (Okay, that’s a little extreme but you get the idea). It’s up to you, what is your perfect ending of QaF?

Just remember NO SPOILERS for the final episode if you have seen it PLEASE! If you have seen the finale I don’t see a problem in stating your opinion as long as there is no reference to what actually happens in the final episode. So, people who are spoiler free for all of s5 may not want to read other people’s posts…But, feel free to just jump in with your own idea of a perfect ending

I guess I’ll start things off.

First of all, I would like to say that I have not been spoiled (except for a slight detail concerning Mel and Linds, but I don’t really care about them so I’ll leave them out of this). I’ve given this a lot of thought and this would be my perfect ending. And since it is my perfect ending, we’ll just assume that most of s5 never happened.

It has been said countless times that this show is about boys becoming Men. And for me, that is what the final episode should have boiled down to. I’d just like to focus on the 5 main men:

Emmett: He’s really the one character that I never had a problem with. He’s always been wonderful and I don’t think never really needed to change. I’ve never wanted him to change. He has though, but not drastically. You can see from the first season to now that he’s only gotten older, wiser and more mature. He’s become a man and it has been a subtle change and I’ve enjoyed watching it. The only thing I can wish for in the final episode is that Emmett is happy and we are left knowing his flame will continue to burn bright. I’ll love him forever and for always.

Ted: Who has been through more up’s and down’s than poor Teddy? No one. Yeah, he’s had the most ridiculous storylines, but also one of the most powerful. His descent into drug addiction was heart wrenching to watch, but his newfound self-confidence made it all worth while. He’s no longer that schmuck full of self-pity and self-loathing. He’s come to love himself for who he is and that’s really what becoming a Man (a person) is really all about. I’d like to see him end the show on the top of his game, happy and healthy.

Michael: He started out as an annoying, whining, selfish little boy (ducks from flying objects – but it’s true). And then we get to watch him take on all the responisiblities and expectations that are put upon men. He became a husband and a father (more than once) and finally began to put other people’s needs before his own. It doesn’t matter that it took him a while, he still did it. I love his little family with Ben and Hunter (and the occasional JR). Michael is now a Family Man who doesn’t need to rely on other people for his happiness. Just seeing him happy with his family in the last episode will make me happy.

Justin: In my opinion the character who developed the most (realistically at least). Of course, he was the one who had to become a Man figuratively and literally. There were times when he annoyed the **** out of me and then in the next moment I was so proud of him I love the Man that he has become. He has been through more crap than most people go through in their entire lifetime and he’s come out on the other side scar-free. I still can’t say how much I LOVE him in the beginning of s5. That was just the best. I loved the direction he was going in. I wanted the end to see him finally happy with his relationship with Brian. I wanted him comfortable and happy and successful and confident. Everything that he deserved to be. Because if anyone does deserve it, it’s him.

Brian: What can I say? The one who never wanted to grow-up. The one who never wanted to change. But, the fact is he did grow up and he had to accept that. Growing means changing which makes him into a Man. I don’t agree or like the drastic changes he went through. I don’t find them plausible. And I don’t know how I would have done it differently (I’m not a writer). But, what *I* would have liked to have seen was Brian realizing that he can’t be a club-boy forever. And that doesn’t mean him not going to clubs, just not as much. I would have liked to have seen Brian realizing that it is okay to love someone and let them know (and I’m not saying he should have said ILY because I would have rather he hadn’t) but just him finally acknowledging that it’s okay for him to love someone and be loved back.

And because I am a B/J shipper (though it may not seem like lately ), I have to mention them. I truly do love these two and they will forever be the best couple to ever grace a television screen. That being said, I always wanted them together in the end. I would have liked to have seen them happy and finally comfortable with each other. I wanted both of them to come to a point in their lives where they could be together without all the securities that have been surrounding them from the beginning. They would still go out, they would still trick, they would still fight. They would still be Brian and Justin. I just wanted to be left knowing that they would be *okay* and they would be *okay* together.

That being said, I am not happy with the direction the show is going. Them being married is not what I want. I would rather them not be together in the end than end up getting married.

And I’ve said this before, I had come to terms with the two of them not ending up together in the end. For a while there it seemed like that was how it was going to end. Now, I pray for this to happen. I am hoping that this wedding does not happen and Justin leaves for NYC to pursue a career.

The more I think about this, the more I think it would be the perfect ending and fall into the category of the two of them becoming Men. To have Justin leave in the end is the best scenario. To be able to see that Justin can walk away from the man he loves and has loved from practically the beginning of the show is a testament to his character. To go out into the world and really make it on his own. To go from a boy with big dreams to a Man who will actually take that step and do what is right for him. I think that this has been the intention of Justin all along. He took that first step off the curb in the first episode and I’d like to see his last step be on his way to New York.

As for Brian, he’s changed drastically this past season and while I may not agree with it, it’s happened. So, I have to go with that. He’s finally opened up and admitted his feelings for Justin. He’s asked him to marry him and he’s prepared to start a life with him, for real. If Justin leaves, Brian will do what he always has…He’ll let him. Brian is able to let go of the people he loves because he loves them. That’s always been the best thing about him. He’s not selfish like so many like to accuse him of being. So, I think that it would be good if Justin left. It will show that Brian can really love and let go. He can let go of Justin even after he said ILY.

I think that’s about it. I’m not sure if it makes much sense But, that’s just how I feel personally. That is my perfect ending of QaF.

So, feel free to comment or just state your own idea of the perfect ending. It doesn’t have to be a novel like mine (I never did get the hang of a short post ). Remember, it’s your ending so whatever you want to happen…

YAY! I love shipper!Dine

Dine loves Blake/Ted

It would be nice to see him back. It's CowLip, so I guess anything can happen. I just really hope that they don't try and throw Emmett and Ted back together at the very end.

Well being the insane Brian/Michael shipper that I am, I would have wanted them together in the finale or at least a hint that there is hope.

Personally I always felt like Brian/Justin were a decent relationship, but one that wouldn't last and I always hoped that Justin would find someone who was able to give him what he wanted from life and from love.

I hate the way they changed Brian in the past few episodes and don't find it at all realistic that all of a sudden he would propose *and* say he loved Justin. I always figured it would be more of a slow process instead of BAM.

Thanks Teena I got my avatar from Cathy. I thought I needed something to say goodbye to QaF. And I just love that one so much

Nikki: I'm all for the B/M friendship, but that's about it for me. I do agree with everything else you wrote though.

I know a lot of you knew what I would love to happen.
My heart will truly break if it's not Brian and Michael. It'll be a very good ending to the story that actually had started with the two of them.
My fave scene still is and forever will be the "Why I always get to play Lois?" It was the pilot, I know, but if they can finish the season will Brian telling him that "Lois, has always been the one for Superman" and it would definitely put me to tears.

Being a b/j shipper and b/m FRIEND SHIP fan. I would liked to have seen it end kinda like Dawson's Creek. b/m still friends a few years down the road. And then Justin coming back for his mothers wedding. And Brian and Justin getting back together in the end.

I'm pretty happy with the ending we got but if it was up to me,it would have ended in Babylon, each of the guys with their man with Brian and Justin dancing together in the middle of them all.

I just got a PM telling me that someone posted a spoiler about the last EPISODE!!!

People... Read the sticky post and do what it tells you... DON'T SPOIL PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LAST EPISODE. It isn't fair.

USE tags.

Whoever did it go back and EDIT you're post.

The reason why I can't come into certain threads is because I haven't see the last 6 eps... so please. This the thread is HOW YOU would want to end the show, not a discussion about the show ending. Before Dine left she always started discussion for those episodes on separate threads. Go there and discuss.

Thank you

I liked the ending they gave us. The only things I would have changed were...

I wouldn't have made Justin just disappear the way he did. It seemed wrong since he'd been there from the beginning just like everyone else. I'm not a B/J'er and I wasn't very unhappy with the wedding plans so I'm glad those fizzled because it wasn't Brian and Justin knew that.

Other than that, I liked it. I liked that B/M had their dance scene, kiss, and the play on the scene between them in the first epi. I also liked the Ben/Michael kiss. I would've preferred Ted/Emmett but you can't have it all. At least they were all happy.

Whoever said that thing about Superman and Lois Lane...CUTE!!! They could have thrown that in there too.

I did. yes, I know, exactly my thoughts. It was such a lovely scene at the pilot and it would've been better if Michael got an answer to that.
Oh well, don't spoil me much.
