I think we're conditioned to feel like we're supposed to be productive ALL the time, and that we should feel guilty if we take a day to do nothing, or to rest, or whatever. I consciously believe this, and yet I still find guilty feelings creeping up on days when I need to rest.

Luckily this time I was able to really sink into it on the second day, and allow myself to just ENJOY being in bed all day, watching my favorite movies that I hadn't watched in way too long, and not worry or be serious about stuff.

Might sound corny but it was kind of like a rebirth in certain ways. I feel like I emerged from it with a new perspective. Sometimes those downtimes are a real gift.

I agree with you - downtime is very important and sometimes we just need to take that time out of life to rest and reconnect. I slept till 1.10pm today but that would be a little bit too much sleep I think I don't know why I slept so long. Better get back onto my Vitamin B and Iron tablets and see if that helps

Deborah - glad things went ok at the meeting and there is nothing wrong with being an empathetic person and I agree with someone else - don't be swayed by the benefits if they are doing other things to make you upset and feel like you're not ok as a person. Hope your shifts go well.

Hope everyone else is going well and had a good rest and a good day too

Hey all!! Hope everyone had a good weekend

I love downtime as well but I am definitely one of those who feels like I'm wasting the day if I sleep in too long or whatever. As much as I love sleep haha. I try and be up and out of bed by 9/9:30 when I'm off so I feel like I have a full day ahead of me.

I'd love to be home right now though. Work is boring lol. And the house empty and I just want to have the house to myself and watch movies haha. It'd be so much easier to call in sick if I didn't work with my sister lol.

Hey everyone!

I'm going to give my job another 4 months (that will put me at 6 months on the phones). With that said...I'll know if it's time to leave sooner. They actually paid me for the 5 days I was in PA for the funeral. But yes...I won't be swayed by the benefits. If I start to hate being on the phones like that, I'll go. I'm reworking my resume, just in case.

I hope everyone has a great day.

I'm going to quickly post as much as I can before 10. I'll probably just respond to posts and not contribute to discussion much, but that will give us more posts and I won't feel so useless.

Downtime is absolutely important. And rest has tons of value - that's why we need it! I've never been a fan of mornings, I love my late nights, instead. And Fiona, funny you mention iron tablets - cause that's what gave me problems recently. They work wonders for some, but not for others. I'm glad they work for you.

Deborah, sounds good. Having a goal in mind, but staying real about how you feel before you get there. That's a good strategy. I don't think any job is worth our sanity or emotional health.

Happy Monday to everyone. I'm personally a fan of Mondays because I usually don't get any new work until Tuesday, so I can chill. Hehe.

I'm too lazy nowNeed to do something with myself, if I start with downtime (which I did already) then I can drown at home.
And there is no air, it's stuffy and I don't have here at my mom place windmill. It's raining so should be less sultrily.

And I need trip, with backpack, far away from civilization with friends... Not gonna happen soon. LOL

Deborah, we spend a lot of time at work, it should be at least good place and good job. Don't know how people can hate their job and doing it all their life.
Do whatever you feel you need to be happy

I don't work now and sometimes I feel bad about that as my husband still has to work. I can't work at a normal job anymore due to my illnesses so that sucks too. But I agree working in a job you don't like would suck so bad.

It's really soul-sucking. I'm only 30 so I don't have as much experience as some of the others, but I tried on a lot of different hats during my 20s and I'm super glad I did cause it led me to being positive about what I want and what I love, but man, were some of those really, really draining...

At this point, I'm totally spoiled by the freelance life. It's ruined me for sitting behind someone else's desk again. I have so much control, so much freedom. I have my life back. Not to mention the actual work I do is highly enjoyable.

That is very cool . You might have mentioned before but who do you write for and what kind of articles/stories do you write?

I'm just glad to get out of the house each day. I've lost 15 pounds since I started working. Just because I'm on the phone all day...talking...so I don't sit and eat. At home, I snack and eat more because of life stress. So this is good for me.

Oh! We're going to see Queen w/Adam Lambert on Sunday! I saw Queen in the early 70's (w/Freddie), but I ADORE Adam Lambert and I've been waiting to be able to do this for a long time. I managed to score VIP tix right on the side of the catwalk.

Off to shower and to work. See ya later!

Thank you. I love it. I work for an insurance blog but they do all kinds of different topics, like travel and random stuff. Their brand voice is humorous and matter-of-fact, so it's even fun to write more mundane topics for them. I've written about insurance, did a whole series on moving to each of the different states in the US, and tons of other random topics they've thrown at me, like how to buy a house.

Deborah - soooo jealous you saw Queen with Freddie back in the day! That's amazing! And so cool you'll see them again! Have fun!

Chris, happy for you. Doing something that you like is the best way to work. I didn't know your freelancer and a writer

I spend most of the day at home, can't do it anymore. I need to work on my condition. Wish me luck tomorrow, maybe i take my ass and go to run.

And we have plans to watch tomorrow, right?
