A mountain cottage sounds amazing!! It is quicker for me to get to the US though than Europe - from Australia it normally takes well over a day and often requires an overnight stop But I do like Europe still And a white Christmas there would be amazing

I know.. a trip to australia would take me ovree 24 hours just flying that's the reason why I wouldn't go there for vacation... it is just too long to fly..

It's amazing when you get here But you'd have to come for a good length of time not just a few days or a week or anything

That's true - you need a holiday after the holiday

What is the word for holiday in German? And what is the word for Australia? I ask about Australia because in Japanese they have to say Oosutoraria as they don't have the same letters and sounds as us so I wondered if German was the same?

Australia = Australien

Holiday = Ferien (same as vacation) or Feiertag (if it is a special day where you don'T have to work)

it is a public holiday but not all counties here have the same amount of holidays.. I'm in Bavaria and so I have the most of Germanys holidays.. but if it is on a sunday or a weekend, it is tough luck and you don't get it..

AH cool - in Australia each state gets pretty much the same amount of holidays but there are a few differences - we used to get the public holidays if they happened on a weekend but I think they're trying to stop that now over here

Sometimes I wished they would give us all the holidays but best are the ones on a thursday or a tuesday. you can get a day off on monday or friday then and have 4 days free then

Too hard to do as a teacher but that would be very cool We like long weekends here That's what we call a Friday or Monday off as well as the weekend - what do you call them?
