FINAL POLL UP ON THE FANART BOARD! Vote your overall fav in the holiday competition!

FanForum Holiday Board Art Competition
Get into the holiday spirit! Work together, and show us what your board can do!
Create a holiday themed piece of artwork on the topic of the board to submit to the competition.

Participation:
Anyone can participate! Whether it be creating a fan art or supporting your fellow board members. Visit any of the participating boards and post your submissions. If you are browsing FF and notice that someone's fanart is good and you like their style, I encourage you to send em a PM! Ask them if they know about the holiday competition You'd be surprised how many people I've come across that love making fanarts but have not heard about the competition Together, we can make this a really fun and a successful holiday competition

Please read all of the rules before submitting an art.

Participating boards:
Rules
  • Each participating board will have a thread dedicated to the competition and it will be the place to discuss and post your arts. It's also a great place for suggestions. Each thread is linked here in this post.

  • The art must be holiday themed and have the board name clear anywhere on the artwork. You are free to use any technique (brushes, textures etc...). For help and tutorials, the FanArt board is a great place to find it.

  • The artwork you submit must be exactly 800 x 600 pixels and in JPEG format. No bigger and no smaller.

  • Final submissions should be a separate post in the thread marked with the words "to submit it for the competition" in red. This way, I will know that it is the final version of the art you would like to submit. It will be linked on the beginning post of the thread, updated frequently. If you do not see your art on that post a few days after you post it, please PM me.

  • Art should include your username on the bottom left of all artwork in Times New Roman, font size 12 (72 pixels per inch). Also be sure to include a separate 150x100 thumbnail in JPEG format along with your art to be used in the voting. Please do not add a border to the thumbnail.

  • The deadline for art submission is December 16th, 2007 5pm EST. You must have your artwork posted by that time to be considered. No exceptions. Please make sure that your upload site is reliable.

  • You may submit no more than 1 art per board. You may most certainly make more than one for each board and post it on the thread for people to see, however you may only submit one for the competition per board. There is no limit to how many boards you can submit an art for.

  • There are a couples of special notes. With regards to the TV and Music board, you may only submit an art on a topic that does not include one in which there is a separate board for here on FF. The only exception is if that particular board is not participating in the contest. For example, you can not submit a Snow Patrol art for the Music board but you can submit a Ross/rachel (from Friends) to the couples board. With regards to the Couples board, you may not submit an art with a movie or tv couple that is from one of the shows participating in the competition unless it features a variety of couples from different boards.

  • Please make sure to keep your artwork PG-13 while sticking to the Forum rules.
Voting
The voting will be as follows:

1. Favorite for each category: This will take place within a few days after the submission deadline in the form of polls, topped in each participating board. An example of a poll can be found here. If you want to vote for a particular board, please visit that board and vote. The last day to cast your vote will be December 23rd @ 5pm EST and the winner will be announced the next day.

2. Favorite Overall: This will be held on the fanart board starting Christmas (after the first round votes are counted) and will be open for voting until December 31st @ 5pm EST. Everyone is encouraged to vote.

Winner of the overall competition will be announced very soon after.

Questions
Please post your general competition questions on the board thread or the main competition thread on the Fanart board.

Thanks guys! My name is Jessie, if you have questions

And a little bit of holiday inspiration:
I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying, toys not included. - Bernard Manning

Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday Season, that very special time of year when we join with our loved ones in sharing centuries-old traditions such as trying to find a parking space at the mall. We traditionally do this in my family by driving around the parking lot until we see a shopper emerge from the mall, then we follow her, in very much the same spirit as the Three Wise Men, who 2,000 years ago followed a star, week after week, until it led them to a parking space. - Dave Barry

I really hope you guys all have a blast making and seeing the arts and that you all have a fun, safe great holiday season

Thanks for opening this! Although I already have a few questions:

- should it be topped? the thread I mean.
- what exactly are you planning to do with the winning arts for them to have such specific dimensions?
- the thumbnail of the artwork... erm... do you want it to be placed in a corner of the artwork as well as the signature? because that's just... weird
- and obviously do you want it PG-13 restricted?

Some moderators have topped their threads but it is entirely up to you and your co-mod(s)

We were just thinking it would be nice if some people wanted to, they could put them on their desktop

Separate thumbnails I am debating with myself whether I want to go through all the threads and edit that to be more clear

Thank you for noticing that that was not addressed in the rules. Seeing as there is no age limit for becoming a member of the Forums, the arts should appropriately consider that. I am going to discuss this with Jen and will return with a more official answer all right?

Thanks for all those questions, they are highly welcomed!

That's what I was thinking with such wallpaperish dimensions

Actually there is age restriction over FF, you have to be over 13 to join and we have to play by PG-13 rules. Believe me, this is a constant struggle for this board
Official answer is gonna be PG-13 I bet... I already regret asking that question

I double checked and the rules say 13+ you don't have to have a parent consent. But under that you can register for FF, but your mom or dad has to fax consent . They might have just changed that recently Though I am not sure exaclty how many people went that way, but you can't be too sure

Somehow I prefer blessed ignorance of not knowing that 12-yr-olds might play on the same internet playground that I do

Oh man... I wonder if she'll guess correctly on which board the rating question was asked

Since I was actually planning to submit my own art, I do have a few questions as well. I'm sorry for those though!

Okay, let's see...

Please also include your username on the bottom left of all artwork in Times New Roman, font size 12 along with a 100x150 thumbnail in JPEG format. No borders please.

TNR and size 12? I'm not sure if that font will fit every art. I mean, I know that it should be readable, but there are other fonts that are readable as well. Maybe we could have a selection of some fonts and try to see which fonts looks best? And size 12 is a good size, I think, but when you set your graphic to a resolution of 72 pixels, the font looks bigger than when you use a resolution of 300 pixels. I know 72 px is the normal resolution, but you have no idea how often I came upon the question why the font in size 12 looks suddenly like size 5.

Oh, and the "no borders" thing...What exactly would you consider a border? I tend to use borders every once in a while to make everything look more like an entity and not like something random. So, do you mean borders like 1 px black frame or some grungy borders as well?

Final submissions should be an entire post on its own marked with the words "to submit it for the competition" in red.

You mean a post in this thread here, right? Or do you want an entire thread? Because that "on its own" part confused me a little.

I'm sorry to be such a pain!

The official statement is to keep it PG-13 while sticking to the Forum rules

You are no such thing! Don't be sorry for your questions, they actually help me

The font isnt supposed to go with the art, its just for our identifying purposes. In a resolution of 72 pixels/in, the times new roman font size 12px is just good enough for us to notice without impeading on the art itself. For the sake of keeping this competition as simple as possible, I'll specify in all the threads that the arts should be 72 px/in in resolution. I don't think many people will be printing the arts out anyway

We are using the thumbnails in the polls, and the no borders rule refers to adding a border to that a thumbnail. For instance when I usually post thumbnails I like to border them to make it stand out in the thread. Please aovid that here. You are free to use any type of border you would like in the actual art though and in that case, your thumbnail may have a visible border when resized and that's okay. Hope that makes sense

Yes you are correct, I did mean posted on this thread. I just didnt want an art hidden in a long post of comments and other possible submissions

hope this answers your questions, If not, please allow me to elaborate

ETA: Please take note that I updated the thread starter with a PG-13 rating and 3 more participating boards: Smallville, Orlando Bloom and Women's Murder Club

Okay, it's me again. And I have more questions.

So, I think I got the border thing now. Basically, we could just resize our original art to 100x150px and post it like that, right? So, we would post the thumbnail and the original size or a link to the original size?

As for the username in the corner: It doesn't matter which color that is as long as it is clearly visible? I mean, if the art is more white-ish, the font can't be white, but it should be black or some kind of blue?

And the most important questions for now:

1. We'll have to add the boardname to the art, but do you mean just the name in whatever font we like or the name in the original font/the original show logo or the whole banner of this board?

2. Do we have to use every main character from the show in that art? Or could we just take our favorite characters? Because, honestly, if we'll have to use the whole cast, it's getting incredibly hard for me. Not that I don't like all of them, but fitting all of them into a holiday art and making it look nice is a bit hard with the ideas I have at the moment.

Questions =

I may have confused you with the borders thing You can add whatever type of border you want to fanarts that you make. Then we just ask that you just resize that to 100X150 without adding additional boarders to make your thumbnail stick out when we repost it for voting When you actually submit the art, it doesn't matter how you link it, as long as I can find both the original and the thumb. Does that make better sense?

The name in the corner can be whatever color you choose. And like you said, as long as it is clearly visible

1. Name however you want, whatever size, font and color you want

2. You do not have to use every character. You don't even have to use any! Like for the TV show Friends, they could just put the coffeehouse that they always hang out at, "central perk" becasue it is iconic for the show. Entirely up to you. We ask that if you only incldse one actor that you don't use one that already has a board participating in the competition

Ok so I have a question () or actually I just want to be sure of something. The Television board - I can make an art using any show that doesn't have a board on FF right?
Also how the credits are supposed to be organized? I mean for the textures/brushes.

Sorry about throwing a million updates at you guys

In this update I've added the Gossip Girls and Daniel Radcliffe boards and we've added a new topic to the competition. You guys can now submit your original artwork fanarts (such as your own photography or drawings) to the thread on the Fanart board for submission. All the same rules apply. If you want to submit an art for this topic, you can post it on the Main competition thread on the FanArt board

I updated all your links as well. The deadline for boards to sign up is Friday but I wanted to make sure to give you guys the most time possible to make your arts. So I may be back just one more time after this with an update

Happy arting, best of luck

That is correct about the television board

As for crediting, please post your credit with the thumbnail and art in your final submission

~DresdenDoll~ , you are welcome! Just making a bit more crystal clear about your Television Board question. Not only can you make an art for a show that does not have a board at FF, you can also make an art for a board that is here as long as it isn't participating; such as Private Practice

Oh, so I still could make a "Bones" art. Well, first I'll have to find the time and creativity for my QaF art.

So, I think everything is clear for me now. Thanks for being so patient!
