I think she never hated Brian. She slowly learned to accept his place in Justin's life and once she realized that no matter what they'll always end up finding their way back to each other she had no other choice than to learn to actually enjoy Brian's company. He wasn't the easiest boyfriend a mother would wish for her child... And their first meetings definitely didn't help his case. Ethan was playing the charm card and using his pretty words - Brian was brutally honest and not-quite-pleasant to meet with. It's natural that she prefered Ethan. But what she must've understood after the Ethan fiasco is that no matter how bad of a boyfriend Brian might appear he still is the best that happened to Justin only because he truely loves him.

ITA Do--she had to realize that not accepting Brian was just going to make her lose her relationship with Justin

I thought it did a really good job at developing the relationship between B/J into a much more mature one. Even when they were apart, they were civil to each other, supporting what would give the other happiness even though they knew it wouldn't work. After they got back together, they had the same rules as before except Justin knew without a doubt that Brian loved him regardless of him saying it. I loved the end when Brian says "looks like I've lost everything" and Justin says "not everything"

 um...I think I have to wait a while unfortunately--My fall 2006 bill for school just came and I have to buy all my textbooks  don't they know that I need my Queer as Folk!?!? But noooo it's all about my school wanting their money |
