I think Brian understood Justin more than people might think and definitely more than even Justin realized. I'm not surprised he forgave him for the cheating, because I think Brian knew where that behaviour came from. And I guess he was also aware of his own mistakes which contributed to it.

I was rewatching the forever young scene yesterday (along with a few more fav B/J moments  ) and it is so sweet to see that Brian was able to recognize how scared Justin was the first night he met him even though he said he didn't even remember Justin's name the morning after  __________________

Watching more closely, it amazes me at how much Brian was affected by Justin so early on...deeply affected.

I'm also not so sure if Brian really thought being with Ethan would be a mistake. Sure, he was heart broken and missed Justin (see above), but I also think that he wanted Justin to have everything he thought he wants and needs. It's kinda interesting that in Season 2/3 he just lets him go and doesn't do anything to make him stay, while in Season 5 he steps up and tries to win him back incl. giving him everything he thinks he wants. __________________

It's because in season 5 Brian already knows what life without Justin feels like and doesn't want to go through that again.
