There were things in the end that Justin really needed, mostly the committment, that was a deal breaker, but fortunately Brian was not too late in understanding he wanted it too.

My opinion is that their love was unconditional. They both loved each other, no matter what their actions or beliefs said. Their love was true and they loved each other no matter what. I'd say that if anything is unconditional love.

I don't think either of them really wanted anything more but being loved back. Of course there are always expectations, desires for what the relationship should be, but I think as long as they could feel they were loved back, they always found a way to be together. Certain expectations became an issue only when Brian was retreating too much and making Justin doubt he was committed to him.

I think Brian wanted those things even back in S2 but it took him a while to accept the fact it's okay to want them, and it's about time to stop fighting against it. It took a lot of obstacles along the way and a very dramatic event to eventually let Brian know he can't lose Justin again.

It really seems like when they broke up in S2, Brian thought he could go back to his old life, the one he had before Justin, but we saw that things had changed that couldn't go back to what they were.

Yeah, we saw how affected he was by the breakup in the beginning of S3. Especially in the first couple of episodes, Brian didn't even seem himself anymore. Later he learnt to cope with it, but the beginning of being without Justin again was very difficult.

I haven't watched that arc in a long time.

Brian does look so broken and lost there, when he says "It's you're call". they both are, actually

I definitely agree.

I pbbly wouldn't solve any other obstacles they had to face in their relationship later but it would pbbly make for a better than a break up
