I agree with Manu. I think Brian was being ott on purpose. I think he did mean it when he said he was willing to be more commited.

but even without getting married, Brian was willing to take the next step, and that was a huge thing for him,imo.

I don't know if he really is such a bad candidate though I mean, ultimately, his feelings for Justin were always so strong and real and Brian would never leave Justin. It's always been the other way around.
