This Lana is horrible to watch.

No idea why Clark is with her... he just hasn't met his Lois yet so he's in a loveless relationship....

She did know his powers on Smallville as well, and it was a mess because Clark came off selfish and didn't really activity save the world.
With Lois, it's when he decided to finally become a hero...
So, Lana always holds him back... it's not her fault on Smallville but it's always written that way.

However, it's sad that Lois isn't meant for this world so Clark will sort of be alone.
