The 3rd episode of "Smallville" Season 8 airs in the U.S. on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 at 8.00pm. Titled "Toxic", here's the official description from The CW...

Oliver flashes back to his days on the island and learns more about his parent's demise. - Oliver (Justin Hartley) collapses at a charity event and reveals he only has 24 hours to live. Clark (Tom Welling) and Chloe (Allison Mack) call Davis (Sam Witwer) for help but his prognosis is grim. Delirious, Oliver flashes back to when he was stranded on an island and first learned how to use a bow and arrow. He also recalls meeting Tess (Cassidy Freeman) for the first time on that island after she had been kidnapped by a drug runner. Meanwhile, Chloe decides to use her new powers to help save Oliver, shocking Clark.

Oliver falls ill at a charity event and Clark and Chloe discover their friend has only hours to live. Oliver soon descends into delirium and is overcome by memories of his time on the island and when he first met Tess. I am so looking forward to this episode. Finally some back story on Oliver. I mean granted we all know how Oliver Queen came to become Green Arrow but it will be awesome to see how they do it on Smallivlle.

And I think it's great for Justin too. Ever since his appearance in season 6 and now with him in the opening credits, he has truly become apart of the Smallville mythology. Sure the show is about Clark pre-Superman but it's also about Green Arrow now which is awesome.

Yes, this episode is needed. It'll set up Justin for the rest of his appearances in season 8, and Oliver is an essential character now. So the timing is right

Since the big networks are pre-empting their regular scheduled shows to air the vice presidential debate here in the US, it's SV's chance to grab some viewership with "Toxic". I expect really good ratings for this episode b/c of that

Hmm I was mourning the loss of The Office and Grey's Anatomy before b/c of the debate, but if it helps out SV's ratings I'm all for it.

Hmm, I thought the episode was pretty good, though not as good as the last two eps. I did like the fact that Clark immediately realized something was wrong with Oliver and he went to help him out right away. I loved Lois' emotional scenes with Ollie lying there and how she had to do something. Her interaction with Davis and calling him "Dimples" was priceless. I also really liked the Tess/Lois interaction. These women are really well matched and play off of each other very well. Another thing I liked with Tess was her last scene, when she poisoned the guy who tried to kill her and then she told the cab driver to kill her. Wow she's just ruthless, but I kind of appreciate that. Justin Hartley also gave a good performance, but to be honest I think the montage they did of him making his arrows and learning how to use them was a bit too long. They could have shortened it. I love JH but I really think his scenes are better when there's someone for him to play off of, instead of just him by himself making arrows. I'll post more later.

I liked the episode, it was different then the other two, but enjoyable. This, however, is the episode that has made me a Tess fan. And strangely enough, a Tess/Ollie fan The Davis/Chloe scenes were so cute again this week. I loved the Clois scenes The first one where she's trying not to cry and he has his hand on her shoulder, and then the last one in the DP.

Next week's episode looks very interesting

I was so surprised by how good this episode actually was. Which is a good thing. I feel that SV hasn't dropped off at all so far in S8.

oh THANK GOD! i'm not alone! i found myself really interested in finding out more about what went down between those two. this ep totally got me on the tess train, because i wasn't that into her character in the last few episodes. in oliver's flashbacks, i enjoyed watching a nice, caring tess. then to totally see the dark, "no mercy" woman she became? awesome.
