Yup, we should be good to go!
Also, I did a round on the Movies Board and Amell board... the other 2 boards I just don't know much of. Well I did watch the first Shadowhunters movie and like the first few episodes of Shadowhunters but that's about it. lol

I am watching Shadowhunters for Alec and Malec (Magnus and Alec). I don't care for Jace or Clary or Clace. They annoyed me in the movie, as well as the first book.

Thanks for your rounds!

It was peaceful and we got some work done, but also sat in some professional development that didn't pertain to us because we are not classroom teachers. I got some paperwork done, so it was an accomplished day!

Today was a little quieter than usual. You know it won't be a day without at least one fire to put that, but I am proud of this kid's progress. She started to scream (more like screech) and I reminded her that she doesn't do that anymore and she stopped. I didn't think that would work. I also had to help her (scoot her as she was on her feet) out of the classroom and into my room but I wouldn't have been able to get her to my room without her help every once in a while. Once I got her to my room, I told her we are good now and she yelled that she is not okay. Yeah, I can see that. Thanks for letting me know. I just let her have a meltdown and when she was fine again, she came over to me, hugged me and apologized for her behavior. She also told me why she got upset. I gave her a break and she was ready to go to music class.

I hope you don't mind that I am telling you about all the fun I have as a SPED teacher.

Wow a screaming kid. My goodness don't you have some tough days it seems. I am happy that you found a way to make her stop, unexpectedly.

It seems like your days are just long and draining but you make it through it. lol

That same kid was crying again today. Such is my life. She is not the only one. There is a student in fourth grade that screams louder. She also, unfortunately, hits her head on the ground or any hard surface and flops all over the floor as she is crying/screaming. I will always come into work with a smile though because I feel sad for these kiddos and just want to love them more. I will never forget the many times I am on the floor with this fourth grader in my arms just trying to prevent her from hurting herself and soothing/calming her down. This job gets pretty emotional, but that's also the beauty of it. I have become an advocate on this journey as well, because so many do not get it. Some general education teachers feel that their consequences should be similar, but they are coded ED (emotionally disturbed) for a reason and we know they are frequently going to display those behaviors. I am just happy we are making progress! Little progress is huge for them.

Oh my goodness. That sounds so insane... jeez how you keep a smile on is a mystery.

Special Education takes a special person as they say. It is not for the faint of heart. I consider myself a patient person, but these kiddos have made me even more patient than I thought was possible. As I am working with students, I also work with General Education teachers and support them in various ways. It is not always easy for teachers to change their mindset towards students who have special needs, especially those who have been teaching for a long, long time. Students with ED take an extra ounce of patience and you will never win in a power struggle so why do some teachers even try push their buttons and try to trigger them? I am not saying give in to them. They follow the same rules and expectations. You just may not be able to talk to them or say the same things as you would to any child - jokingly or not. Not everyone likes sarcasm, for example - even I'm not the biggest fan of sarcastic people. Another example: students with Autism need to be told things as directly as possible. They may not get body language or tone of your voice. So don't get mad at them because you may not have made yourself clear. You need not escalate things, but find strategies to deescalate! I could go on. My main vent isn't with the students, but it is with the adults. lol Not all of them, just the ones that teach older elementary students.

Nah, that's okay. It was a calm day today. Well, calm for our standards. A student, who normally doesn't go off, was screaming and crying and loudly melting away in the hallway, telling us to leave him alone. That we can handle... He did not harm himself or others. We would like the rest of this week to be this calm, thank you.

So everyday you have to deal with the screaming, crying and yelling?

I can guarantee a scream and cry from at least someone everyday, yes. That's just our life, but as I am telling you this, it sounds pretty bad. I just expect it. Doesn't surprise us at all anymore. It would surprise us if we didn't have someone crying for a day. We have those days too. When our students who have frequent meltdowns are at a field trip or absent. And usually it is them coming into our room crying and yelling about something that didn't happen with us. We provide the comfort. Unless the meltdown goes too far and turns into more anger and aggression. Then we are the punching bags.

How about I tell you the amazing part of my life as a Special Education teacher now.
