So far, it has been a great weekend! Slept in until 10 AM, but that is because I didn't go to bed until 2:30 and it takes me a while to fall asleep.

I am older than you. These old bones can't stay up until too late now.

My latest these days is a little past 4 AM and that happened over Christmas break. I also didn't get up until like noon.

I felt like it was a battlefield at work. Putting out fires and lots of it today. I made it. I hope for a much better tomorrow. I think it'll be easy to beat the crazy day today.

It went better, although towards the end of the day we had an incident with someone redecorating the room and desks and things in the classroom. The 'redecoration' was not such a pretty sight either. I'm not sure why I am being more vocal about everything happening. Maybe I am a little over pretending I have an easy job.

I know you all have an idea of the difficult life of a Special Education teacher, but I have been brushing it off like it's no big deal. That's how I see life in general. It helps me stay positive, but I've been a little annoyed and shocked to realize some think that Special Education teachers just sit around or have it so easy. 2018 is a year I want to stand up for myself a little more. I'm still all about staying positive and full of optimism but I don't want to give the impression anymore that Special Education is a walk in the park. It's not. At the same time, I feel so sad for some of my kiddos because I know they can't help it and for some of our kiddos, family life isn't great. I think that's why I see things with such happiness, but I also don't want people to get the idea that Special Education is easy. I think just with this post and my last, you can imagine this is my daily life. We have kiddos who have meltdowns and violent behaviors through 6th grade. This is in a public elementary school. I will always love my job and love my kiddos but I really do hope more people understand the job that we do - and that includes administrators too.

I am sorry that it's been more difficult for you than you have been letting on.

Please try to keep that optimism.
