Smallville Board Regulations & Spoiler Rules: Please Read - Updated (page4) 12-29-08

In addition to the Official Fan Forum Rules and Guidelines , the moderator team has decided to draft up and enforce additional rules and regulations for the Smallville board. Please read them carefully and follow these rules when posting here. Failure to do so will result in a warning from the moderator team. Multiple failures to follow the rules and regulations will result in possible infractions and disciplinary measures from the management team.

Additional Smallville board Rules and Regulations are as follows:

No bashing
Bashing in any shape or form is not allowed on this board. Meaning not only your posts, but your avatars, signatures and your fanart. This includes bashing of cast and crew, posters and real people.

Stay on topic
Please keep the discussions on topic about character/ship that thread is dedicated to. Meaning no discussion of Actor/Actresses/Characters/Ships in threads that aren't meant for them. For all off topic discussion we have the Off Topic Thread. We want you to to be able to have fun and entertaining discussions on the board, but please be aware, of where you are posting and what the thread's main focus should be.

Anti Threads
As a moderator team, we have agreed to allow Character Unappreciation Threads Only. Not allowed are anti-couple threads and anti-actor/actress threads. We will be monitoring all current anti threads for the following: Bashing of actors or other fan bases. Criticism is allowed and so is the expression your opinion in a constructive way. Please, do not make negative personal remarks about the actors or their physical appearance. Such comments are low class and will not be tolerated. If an anti-thread is warned by one of the moderators, and continues to ignore our warnings to edit their remarks/comments, the thread will be closed down permanently. Nobody wants to have to edit/close down threads, but if you leave us no choice we will be forced to do so.

Language
Please remember Fan Forum is a PG-13 board. This includes the ways around the censoring system. Using the * symbol so you can type in a word that isn't allowed is not going to be tolerated. Example: "***ing b*tch" If text that you are using from another site contains that kind of language it will not be allowed on this board. Thank you for keeping it clean.

Quoting
Do not quote pictures or avatars - if you quote someone, please edit out the image before submitting your reply.

Linking
Links to other message boards or discussion forums are not allowed.
If a website that you link to has a message board, that’s fine, but you can’t link directly to the message board on that website. Please refer to the fanforum rules and regulations for more details on this topic.

Episode downloads
Please don't ask for links to download episodes, because it is against Fan Forum rules. Links to any downloading sites will be edited out. Do not advertise websites that allow downloading of episodes.

GENERAL Spoilers ALL NEW & UPDATED

• No spoilers about any new or current television shows are allowed on the television show forums, and they should only be posted on the Spoilers Forum. Information is considered to be a spoiler if it details something that has not yet been broadcast anywhere in the world. Promos that have already aired on television and small episode descriptions are not considered to be spoilers.
• Do not post any unauthorized direct script excerpts on the Spoilers Forum.
• Do not link to other Spoiler message boards.

Future Episode Title policy

Future episode titles (other than the current episode of the week) will not be allowed to be posted here on the Smallville board in any thread and will be considered spoilers.

Spoiler Pictures

• Pictures from promos that have already aired on television or shown at the movie theatre are not considered to be spoilers.
• Pictures of clips, sneak peaks, extended promos, episode stills and filming pictures that are available on the Internet and have not been aired on television or have not been shown at the movie theatre before the movie is released are considered to be spoilerish, and they should only be posted in designated threads for the upcoming episode or movie.

Spoiler Avatars

• Avatars made from promos that have already aired on television or shown at the movie theatre are not considered to be spoilers.
• Avatars made from pictures of clips, sneak peaks, extended promos, episode stills and filming pictures should not be used until after the episode airs or until the movie is released, because avatars can be seen all over Fan Forum, and we want to respect the wishes of members that don’t want to see any spoilers for an upcoming episode.

Spoiler Episode descriptions
1. Small snippets/blurbs from TV Guide/Entertainment Weekly etc. are fine.
2. Longer episode descriptions (like for example the ones CW provides), are considered to be spoilerish and should just be discussed on the episode discussion thread until the episode airs or they should be posted with spoiler tags in various threads on the television boards here.

We have a Smallville Spoilers Thread on the Spoiler Board, so feel free to discuss all spoilers there.

Signatures
Stay within the FanForum limit. Do not advertise websites with forums in your signatures.

Stealing Content
Taking reviews, quotes, spoilers, interviews, or other material when the site you took it from has a policy against it, is not allowed under any form.

Posting Pictures
First, please resize if your image is so big that it stretches the page when you view it. Do not under any circumstance link and steal bandwidth.

If you have any questions and you are not clear about the rules we will be using please send a PM to the board moderator team. We will be glad to answer your questions.

I hope you take this annoucement the way it was intended to be taken, as a proactive step, to prevent further problems on this board. After all, rules and regulations are just that. The moderator team here can't make you follow them, but we can try and make the board better for the people who do.

Thank you for making an effort to make the Smallville board the very best it can possibly be

Alex

Hey miniman.
Welcome to the board.
The rules also say no spam, so that's why most of your posts got deleted.

We've added some additional anti thread rules that just came up in a new situation for this board. We thank you for abiding by them.

WHY are couple anti threads not allowed? I can't see any justification for such a ruling. I think it's unfair to allow appreciation of ships without allowing unappreciation as well. Smallville has from early on been plagued by bad ships (Clana, Clois, Lexana) which have dragged the show down and sorely need unappreciation. If there's anything that needs to be discussed on a Smallville board it's the bad ships and the problem the show has with shipping.

Also, being more restrictive than FF in general with regard to "bad/crude langauage" and suchlike is unfair and I can't see any good reason for it. It looks to me like reactionary censorship.

I loved the new rules Alex and Cris. I would love if this rules also apply to the Angel thread that have some anti-couples thread.

Why, to shut down more discussions people other than yourself are enjoying?

Anti-ship discussion was always held on anti-character threads. Also, episode discussion threads are always filled with both anti and pro ship discussion.
For five years this practice worked for this board, and there is no need to start more anti threads now and create unnecessary shipper tension.
This board has always been friendly and welcoming place without too much negativity or shipper wars, and we'd like to keep it that way.

There is no need for the use of crude language on family board. I'm sure everyone here is mature enough to express their dislike without the use of cuss words.

Well said Cris

sum...nobody is saying you can't be anti-lex/lana. Just be anti-lex/lana on the anti-lana lang thread. I'm sure people there won't mind, b/c you have some good points to make. Also, when we do start our Episode Discussion threads, as long as you have constructive criticism toward the show's direction witih Lex/Lana, you are free to post that dislike there as well. Just do it in well spoken manner b/c everyone is entitled to their point of view.

Unappreciation isn't a negative. If people are interested enough in something to post on anti threads then that's a sign of enthusiasm. And yes there is need to start anti couple threads. If people want them then there is need to start them. Banning them is taking something away from posters. There is no need to do that. What's necessary is allowing the widest range of discussion and expression for the widest range of different types of fan tastes. Cutting away types of threads cruelly narrows that down.

As for shipper tension, that comes with being on a message board. Good modding can surely manage to keep that in control no matter what types of threads are allowed. Shipper tension is always a potential problem on boards with ships. It's a problem that can be dealt with. It's not an excuse for banning types of threads people can enjoy. And couple unappreciation threads are outlets for shipper feelings where such feelings can be expressed without clashes between opposing fan groups. As a safe outlet such threads can help keep shipper tension in control. I don't see why it has to be assumed that bringing anti couple threads onto the board will cause a lot of shipper tension.

There's nothing mature about not using such language. Language of that sort is a natural part of talk and adds vigor, color and life. Anti-swearing views are rooted in class prejudice and are unhealthy. Yes there is need for such language.

And if you're going to go banning language you have to make it clear what you're banning. What about "bloody", "damn", "hell", "wtf"?

Site policy is that individual mods can decide whether or not to allow anti/unappreciation threads at the board they moderate. While they do serve the purpose of keeping fanbases separated, they can also cause a lot of friction. Hence letting the moderators decide what will work best at that board.

The filters are here for a reason and people should not use creative spellings or symbols in an attempt to circumvent the filters. Doing so indicates that the person knows the word is filtered and is deliberately breaking the rules.
