Smallville 7x06 "Lara" Episode Discussion

Welcome to the official episode discussion thread everyone:)

All Rules & Regulations apply as always.

The 6th episode of "Smallville" Season 7 airs in the U.S. on Thursday, November 1st at 8.00pm.

Titled "Lara", here's the official description from The CW...

"Clark (Tom Welling) learns Kara (Laura Vandervoort) is in Washington DC searching for the crystal. Kara is captured after she breaks into the lab and sedated with a kryptonite-infused truth serum. The serum causes her to relive a prior trip to Earth when she followed Clark's biological mother, Lara (gust star Helen Slater), to the Kent farm. Clark arrives in time to save her but, after searing the machine with heat vision, he also falls victim to the serum and sees what Kara sees: his mother."

Written by: Don Whitehead and Holly Henderson

Directed by: James Conway

Meanwhile, TV Guide has the following description for this same episode...

In the process of trying to get the crystal back, Kara is captured and sedated with a kryptonite serum; Clark follows and tries to release her, but not before the serum has caused both to have a vision of Clark's mother (Helen Slater).

New episode! :woot: And it sounds like it's chock-full. The trailer looks great, too. There is definetly a sibling rivalry with Clark/Kara ... and I think that's why this season is working for me. The Director's Cut was cool. You got to see Laura in a harness with a Green screen.

THanks for the promo & director's cut. Seems like a sweet episode!

Can't wait for this episode!
We'll finally learn a bit more about Clark's biological parents. :woot:

I have high hopes for "Lara". This could be one of the better episodes in S7:)

Great episode! Loved Helen Slater as Clark's mom. Zor EL was a bad guy. I guessed he and Jor EL were like Cain and Abel now I know why they were at odds.

Clark was wrong to take MM's side against Kara like he did but I liked how they reconnected. That government guy was evil.

Next week's episode looks good. Super Lana

it...was....AWESOME!

This shows is just becoming kind of a chore to watch. Kara has not injected the life into the show the way Green Arrow did last season
It seems like the writers have run out of things for Lana to do and now they're just throwing darts at idea cards on a buletin board.
Lois us a joke at this point and the casting of the new editor proves that drug abuse is rampant in Hollywood.
And next week's episode, I think I've traveled back in time and I'm watching an episode of Lois & Clark.

THE ORIGINAL SUPERGIRL as Clark's Mom!

Brilliant

Hmmm....I thought the episode was pretty good , maybe 7 out of 10 quality. It was a great episode for the El family and Kara and the development of that storyline, but I thought it was just a tad bit on the boring side

I really loved the fact that JJ was right about Kara's father. Honestly, I had wanted him to be right but deep down, I had thought that Kara's story was right because they were family and all that bolognia. But this actually brought in a really intresting twist to the El family relationships especially about Clark's mom and Kara's dad. I'm really excited for Smallville to get more into the El family background. And also about Lara's DNA and the little science project that Kara's dad was working on . I thought that whole storyline in the episode was great .

I also LOVE Lana this season. She's just got all this mystery and dare I say, evilness to her now and I love it. I mean, sweet innocent Lana is great but badass Lana? So much cooler. I love how Kristen is playing her too especially if you look at her scene with Chloe. When she was talking to Chloe, she kind of had this eerie tone to her and it just made everything she is doing all spine-tingling. But the only downside to this is her relationship with Clark. Now the roles have been switched and Lana is the one with all the secrets and Lionel was right, she's not doing this to protect Clark anymore but to have revenge on Lex. I'm gettins a wee scared for when this might blow up in her face because we all know how Clark feels about her. I can't have Clark hurt !

I also really love the end scene with Lionel and Lex, possibly one of my favorite scenes of the night. I love Lex but Lionel saying 'there's nothing to be proud of' was just SO GOOD. Lionel is just awesome. I love the person he's turned out to be and his relationship with Clark. Lionel sort of just seeing people (Lana, Lex) for who the really are and then sort of putting them in their place a little is...just really good and I love watching those scenes. I think John Glover is just an amazing actor and the scenes that he is in are a lot of times my favorite for the episode. But all throughout the episode I was like, why does Lionel look so different? Did he shave his moustache? What? Then I was like, it's the hair....it's so pretty and combed. I like it :D!

The bad parts of the episode...hmmm *thinks*

There was definately not enough Chloe :(. Okay, okay not all the episodes have to have loads of Chloe but I love her so ...you know I'm going to take at least half a point away for too little Chloe-ness.

I wasn't too peachy keen about the Jimmy/Chloe -ness of the episode . I feel like after such anemotional breakup like that, things should be a little more awkward or just uncomfortable. But here we have Jimmy just jumping into Chloe and Clark's conversation when he hears Kara's name. I just want a little more emotion and not everyone moving on so fast. Dude, just two weeks ago Jimmy was showing Chloe a box of why they belong together and now it's like their relationship wasn't even that special. I get that they don't want to be on bad terms but...c'mon! Okay, we got a bitter Jimmy comment but other than that it was just sort of blah.

And that brings me to the second thing I'm not too big of a fan of -the Kara and Jimmy relationship. I'll admit I'm a little bias only because Chimmy is like my OTP but, there is a little more reason to it. Personally, I think their relationship is just really cliche. Like, hot girl is really foward with the dork and the dork obviously becomes really infatuated. I don't find a lot of substance to their relationship but who knows, we're only in the beginning. Allso, I love Kara a lot more when she is not around Jimmy. Kara with Jimmy just seems to be so perfect and again, not a lot of substance. I don't think Jimmy really knows her yet, he just sees a nice, hot girl right now but there's so much more to Kara than that. She has these insecurities about her identity and I love seeing that but when she's around Jimmy, I feel like we lose that. But again, we're only in the beginning so  who knows?

Overall, the episode was okay. But I think this episode is great that it's sort of the seed to a really great storyline that's coming up (by that I mean El fam bam storyline). So this episode was sort of necessary for that but...it was still pretty entertaining so I can't complain :D.

JediBlastoise 11-01-2007 11:56 PM

wow Kara looked so great in that red dress! but then again she looks great in anything she wears, or doesn't wear! :D

and Helen Slater looks great for her age!

and so now we know why Kara doesn't remember being on the kent farm. people were complaining about why she'd be there and not go striaght there when she landed, well mystery solved!

although i do wonder how Lara and Kara got inside the house in the first place and not let their presence be known. maybe the kents like to leave their doors unlocked or something...

Raja 11-02-2007 01:49 AM

Great episode. I love when they fill in the backstory. Also the first episode where I was able to stand Kara who I havent been a fan of.

JediBlastoise 11-02-2007 01:55 AM

I wonder if Clark dropped by to visit his mom since she's in Washington now and introduce her to his cousin, lol.

Bronson 11-02-2007 04:32 AM

Yes it is past due for Clark to introduce his mom to Kara. As for coming into the house, I am guessing that since its a small town and back then you probably did not feel the need to lock your doors.

I loved this episode also. Zor EL was evil.

Loved Helen Slater as Clark's biological mother.

blue4815162342 11-02-2007 05:54 AM

i hope that clark visited martha while he was in washington. it would have been a funny scene to see, if he had introduced her to kara.

anyhow to last nights episode, it was actuallly prity good. it was very interesting how they brought up memoria (sp) and the whole last time that thing was used on clark. i liked a lot the way they told kara's backstory, instead of having her tell us, we sort of had to findout with the characters. they also explained briefly how the El's got to earth, without having to use a ship.

the whole chloe and lana scene rocked. Go Chloe for not falling into lana's lies! it was good to see that chloe though wouldn't batray lana, is more likely not to batray clark. the whole clark not telling linol everything was also a good start, after everything that happened at the end of the season.

another thing i really loved in yesterdays episode was the part when chloe tells jimmy "be careful your from two different worlds" though kind of cheesy it still was a good line.

overall i'll give this episode 8 out of 10, better then last week. good job smallville.
