I don't follow those books, I only ever read the first one and didn't like it much

Oh, you're the first person i ever spoke to who doesn't like Harry Potter. I wasn't sure if that was even possible.

I didn't dislike it, I just didn't get that into it. Whenever I say that people tell me to read the rest of the series and don't just judge the first book, but I don't have the time to keep on reading a series if the first book doesn't grab me

Yeah, that makes sense. I read the first book when I was 8-9 years old and I loved it… i don't know how I'd feel about it if I would read it now for the first time.

I think I was too old for it when I first read it to be honest. It was better when they got to Hogwarts, but at the beginning with Harry living under the cupboard with the evil family it just felt like books I read in primary school. People always think that I'm judging them when I say that and they take offense, but I don't care if other adults read them at all (I still read young adult books myself like The Fault In Our Stars that are aimed at teenage readers), but HP just wasn't for me because the characters were sooo young I think for a lot of the fans they grew up with HP and so will always love revisiting them, there are definitely books that I feel that way about, but if you're older when you first read them then it's harder to get attached to the characters in the same way IMO.
