^ Lex father exist in the comics but never is seen much, and had different names. lol
In the comics, Lex father went by the name Jules Luthor; Jules was so disgusted by his son that he threw him out the home and renamed the family "Luthor" last name, "Thorul"
The character was erased from existence in the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline in the 70s or 80s... forgot.



John Glover is the first person to portrayed, "Lionel Luthor" and remember, the only reason why Lionel Luthor lasted as long was because of John Glover. He started guest star, moved recurring and became a series regular and of course played a huge role in Lex's life... and was a bigger character on Smallville than any of us could've ever imagined.

So, John Glover gets the credit for Lionel Luthor being popular.
