Because haven't we seen in recent years how much can be done on television and how it won't take away from you making a movie every three or five years if that. When did they finally get the green light for Clois?

Well DC had restrictions on Smallville because of the Superman Returns movie... and Clois were connect through there. Just stupid.

At first they were only able to have Lois Lane for 4 episodes and than DC allowed Smallville to have her for more so the more episodes they kept green lighting Lois for, the more they kept giving her.

They even said Lois wasn't allowed to share scenes with Lex. Like really? just stupidness.

Here goes some interviews from you that I had saved! Just in case this discussion would happen again. lol

“They really were trying to be careful what they did with Lois,” Durance comments, “because they weren’t sure how they were going to take Lois and Clark and their relationship in the early stages of the movie. So for a long time Lois could never kiss Clark, they couldn’t have a relationship, there were some specific things that could not happen, even in dream sequences.”

“It surprised me because I thought, ‘Do you think they are not going to realize that I’m not Kate Bosworth?’ We are two totally different girls and two totally different Supermen. So I’m excited to see what my Lois is allowed to do now the movie has come out.”

Former Writer/Producer Steve DeKnight's
"Ah yes, the restrictions on Lois. When she was first introduced, our main restriction was that she could under no circumstances have any romantic relationship with Clark. Even if he were on Red K, no huggy no kissy no anything. This I believe still holds. Another restriction was that she couldn’t even have a scene with Lex. That has since been lifted, but I believe she can’t have any romance with him either. I'm not sure about the DP stuff, although I think there may be something about her not working there yet. As for backstory about why she’s so aimless, I’m not sure if that’s part of the master plan. To me she’s just a young hellraiser trying to find her way. Which hopefully she’ll do soon."

From what I recall, certain things continued getting lifted slowly! I believe starting season 6. By season 8 ironically everything was lifted. But I know for sure season 4-5, they were on very strict orders. After season 7 seems like everything to uplifted because the writers strike and they didn't have to worry about Superman Returns anymore... so I loved Superman Returns but I guess we should be thankful that there was not a sequel.:gone:

Oh crikey, I always forget how long ago this all was... that was the Superman Returns era, not Man of Steel. Yeah –*like Erica said, I really like Kate Bosworth (used to enjoy her from her early days of that The WB show 'Young Americans') but the two actresses couldn't be more different. I've never watched Superman Returns so I don't know if Lois shared a great many scenes in there with Lex? I think there is a comic-verse where Lois is married to Lex but that's neither here nor there. I mean like we talked about before all these restrictions, such as they were, now I can see why things turned out as they did on the show but I think it didn't do them any favours. Like you said, good thing there wasn't a sequel of the movie and the restrictions got lifted.

Thank you for bringing all the quotes and interview links over! I appreciate it.

On Smallville she couldn't share much scenes with Lex. In the movies, it wasn't restricted.

I have another interview from restrictions as well but I gotta see if I can find it in my bookmarks.

And yeah if we got a Superman Returns Sequel than we most likely would've never gotten Clark and Lois during season 8-10.:bawl: I can't even imagine that nor do I want to envision it.

The restrictions really were so stupid though.:( It makes one wonder what would've happened if the restrictions never existed to begin with. Also I know Erica still wasn't allowed more than 13 episodes even in Season 8 so.... probably the restrictions really did get lifted around season 9. I remember the celebration so many of us had when it was announced Erica can FINALLY have more episodes. lol

Nikki K 02-03-2020 03:02 PM

Yes, I got that about not sharing scenes many scenes with Lex on Smallville. I don't remember all that many occasions – like I guess the episode when Lucy first appears and eventually steals Lex's Mercedes. I still don't get this particular restriction because it doesn't seem like there was a storyline leading to them spending time anyway. That being said, I mean I had some suspicious about there being restrictions but ultimately I didn't get into fandom things before I came to this board and talked to a LJ friend as you know I just watched the whole series in one go very quickly and the lack of Lois or the way they first used her was so annoying to me. I knew from my friend that it would be different in season 9/10 and I couldn't wait for that.

eternalfate 02-04-2020 03:22 PM

Yeah, ED even had an interview about the little bit of episodes she could do per season.:( it was quite annoying that she couldn't be in a full season because of DC's nonsense with restrictions on certain characters.

^ aah, Lois and her love for Whitesnake, it rubbed off on Clark :D he was supposedly singing one of their tunes in the shower scene (including Lois name in the lyrics) before banshee Chloe ambushed him, in "Escape".

scififan2009 02-04-2020 10:30 PM

Wonder if any of the girls are into whitesnake.

Clark is probably glad he doesn’t have superhearing anymore.
