Smallville 4x01 "Crusade" Episode Discussion
4x01- "Crusade" Clark returns to Smallville as Kal-El; intent on fulfilling his destiny, Kal-El takes to the skies to steal a powerful Kryptonian stone which was in the possession of Lex Luthor. Dr. Swann's emissary, Bridgette Crosby (Margot Kidder), arrives to help Martha, who learns about a new form of kryptonite. Lois Lane comes to town to investigate the death of her cousin Chloe. Lana is shown in Paris with a new boyfriend, Jason (Jensen Ackles), and Jonathan Kent lies in a coma. Martha uses the Black kryptonite to help Clark retrieve his past self. Lana sees a symbol on her back which is similar to one on the tombstone of Countess Isobel Thoreaux. __________________

Premiere! It's like the perfect birthday present, but a day early. Or at least it would be if I lived in America and would get to see it, so...now I think about it, I'm really bitter.
*whines* You get all the episodes before ussssss *sulks and sticks out tongue, proving she is, indeed, still ten* You'll just have to give me EVERY detail about it, and I mean it! Minute by minute... __________________

I loved this premiere so much. It has to be the best! I love Lois. Casting her was great. I do think they rushed a little bit. Since I don't read spoilers for this show... I had no idea that Chole would be alive! I love the ending of it.
Lois and Clark next week! Hehe! |

Blow by Blow:
First scene-Lois watching a video of Chloe. -Yay, some Allison Mack! I'm so glad that the one good thing and person she could count on was Clark. I was afraid for a minute she was talking to Lana. How did Lois get that video? 2nd scene-Lois driving, then meeting Clark -Well, she's kinda snarky so far. Yay for naked Clark! Hmmmm, he doesn't remember who he is, that could be interesting. GAK! I missed the credits 3rd scene- Lex in the ruins -What was that statue thing? 4th Scene - Lois and Clark in the hospital -I see a diff b/t Lois and Chloe already. Lois is def. a little colder, maybe a little less compassionate. 5th Scene - Lana and her bf, Jason -Wow, that history of their relationship was waaaaaaaaaaay subtle. Except not. Also, eveidently parisians love Lana as much as the SV boys and FotWs do. Gah. 6th Scene- The Kents in the hospital -Yay Martha, you're such a good wife. Bo doesn't deserve you. 7th Scene - Lois and Clark in the hospital -The rambling and snark is veeery Chloe-esque. You can tell they're related. Yay that Lois isn't annoying me! That's a very good sign. Cute scene. 8th Scene-Lex in the desert -Ooooh, Lex is doing secret things, how original! I do wonder what the mission was. So, Lex needs to have his blood purified. Interesting, I wonder how he'll be cured of that one. 9th Scene- Clark and Martha in the barn -Uh oh. Bo Duke is in trouble. On a side note, TW looks goood in black. 10th scene - Lex on plane, Clark and Martha on ground WOW! WOW WOW WOW! -What was the crystal Lex found in the statue? Why did it affect Clark like that? What exactly did Jor-El do to Clark? Great scene for AoT, she plays the grieving mother sooo wonderfully. He flew! He fleeeeeeeeeeeew! *Squee* You know, it's the first time I've actually thought that TW could pull off Superman, if he were ever cast. 11th Scene- Lana and BF in church -sigh, boring and pointless. Until the light o' mysteries from the rubbing. 12th Scene - Lois and Martha in Kent kitchen -Lois is a zippy little thing, isn't she? Love of coffee-again with the Chloe-like character traits. At least you can tell that she really loves Chloe. Unlike Chloe's "sister" who either doesn't know (does Lana not check in at all???) or doesn't care, apparently. 13th Scene - "Kal-El" on plane and Lex The "Bird?Plane?" reference was cute. I'm still curious about that crystal. Kal-El is one sexy amnesiac alien. Rawr! 14th scene - Martha and Dr. Swann's assistant Yay for the old Lana/Lois reunion! Hee, the Lois/Superman "in a different lifetime" reference was soo cute! Martha is gonna get her baby back! Hmmmm, what does black kryptonite do?? 15th Scene- Lionel and Lex in prison Er, Lionel looks good, Martha should so have an affair. The MB probably has conjugal visits. Hmmm, relics, weird lght from church rubbings, this season looks like it's taking a new turn right off the bat. "You shouldn't wound what you can't kill, Dad"-I like threatening Lex! 16th Scene - Clark in Cave -Ohh, sexy. And um, mysterious. 17th Scene - Lana and Jason at her apartment -More mysterious. 18th Scene - Martha and Kal-El/Clark -So thaaat's what black Kryptonite does! Clarkie is back! Yay! But not naked this time! Boo! Bo is awake! Meh! Bye bye Kal, you were sexy while you were here and I'll miss you. 19th Scene- Bo and Martha and Clark in hospital -Ew, Kentrents macking! And MaKent's buttcrack! No me likey. TW's range is excellent. His Clark and Kal are just so different. Clark here is back to his sweet old self. Awww for some Kent family bonding! 20th Scene- Lana in shower. -Sigh, at least the TPTB's Lana fetish shows high continuity. Ooooh, she has a tattoo o' mystery. I'm so intrigued. Er, well, I'm trying to be intrigued, anyway. 21st Scene- Lois and Lionel in prison -I thought they were gonna kiss for a minute. Cool as a cucumber with the MB though! Yay for her! 22nd Scene- Lois at Chloe's grave -Awww, Chloe is Lois's weakness. SQUEE. "Chloe was my best friend." I've never heard Clark refer to her as that. Yay, sweetness. The snarky flirting over her grave was a little distasteful, IMO. What is it with Clark and flirting over graves? "Chloe's still alive!" YAAAAAAAAY! Even though AM didn't appear, Chloe was referred to constantly, I almost felt like she was in the episode. Yay, I like that findsing Chloe is a main plotline. Ok, first impressions: I think I'm going to be able to tolerate Clois. I might even be able to like it. I like Lois, but she still seems A LOT like Chloe. She's like Chloe on speed. I feel like viewers who dislike Chloe's blunt, curious attitude are going to hate Lois, because she's exactly the same way. I do like that she's going to make the Clana go away, as it seems. So, whoo, good premiere! I think I prefer S3's, but this one was def. better than S2's! |

Smallville continues to put out the goods...I can't even begin to describe how much I love the show. And the whole "Kal-El being the only one who can fly" thing sucks some major ass...I was literally squealing at seeing all the promos of Clark flying. But all in all, it was a great premiere, and I love the new C/L...Lana is so a thing of the past people, hate to break it to ya. She's been replaced.

Damn you, AlMiles! I swore I wasn't going to watch this season. The lack of Mack in the opening credits almost made me cry. But as much as I love Allison/Chloe, I'm digging Lois. She's not adorable and perky like Chloe, she's tougher with a little sarcastic edge. Is it wrong that I want her with Clark and the season's barely started? Is it?
Was shocked at the minimal!Lana. Kudos to the writers for telling the story without her. If all else fails, I'll be watching just for the Clark/Lois interaction. They look so cute together. __________________

What I loved:
Lois, so far. I think I'm going to like SVLois a lot. Love her scenes with Lionel at the end. She took him on and didn't back away. FlyingClark...err, Kal El. But that scene was just cool. I didn't much care for the slow motion before he took flight, but once he was in the air I was impressed with the scene. Lex. Every scene in every episode, though, so there's nothing new about that. The episode felt rushed, but all of their premieres seem to, at least to me. I don't understand that Lex went to Lionel and accused him of breaking into the plane. With the way the scene was done, I thought for sure he got a look at "Clark". The way they went from Clark to the shot of Lex peering through the hole, eyes wide....hmm... Clark looking in the coffin...totally predictable. I don't have an opinion on Jason & Lana yet, but they're already loads better than Clark & Lana. And though I never used to like him, Jensen Ackles is a good actor. __________________

I think all of us kind of thought in the back of our heads that Chloe wasn't dead. I was shocked that Jonathan woke up, I thought they would have killed him. Aside from that, amazing premiere. Loved the play-by-play above. You should do that for every episode. Very entertaining. The new season, alot of cryptic messages and symbols. Can't miss an episode, or I'll be lost forever. LOL.

After Candygirl's post I feel that I have nothing left to say...you stole my thunder
OK...maybe I do have something else to say...Want to talk about Erica Durance's performance...how much I liked it...not just b/c she's a hottie...I really like how Miles Millar and Alfred Gough went about portraying her as a character on Smallville. She has a lot of Chloe in her...explaing another reason of why I like Lois so much I'm definitely wishing now that she was a cast regular for this season...not just a guest star as they said in the opening credits. Anyone notice Chloe not being the opening credits...I guess they want to keep the suspence going for the audience out there... Someone said that they thought Lex got a "look at Clark"...but I rewatch the episode this morning...and he didn't. Just missed Kal El, but that's the story of Lex's life....always late Basically...I enjoyed this episode...it raised many more questions than it answered. I'm thinking that "Gone" which is episode4-2 is basically "part 2" of the season premiere. Same thing that happened in season3 with Exile and Phoenix. 'lex __________________

Damn this ep. was worth the wait. There should be some clause in Tom Wellling's contract that says he must appear naked if only for a short sec in every ep. Damn that man is sexy!
Well now that my obsessing is over with on to the ep. I loved the whole Clark/Lois thing. I was sooo sick of the Clark/Lana dance after last season ended that it was time for something new. They have excellent chemistry and I can't wait to see where is all goes. It is good to see Lana moving on but here is what I don't get. If she heard that Chloe had been killed wouldn't she have gone back to Smallville? And what is up with the whole tatoo thing in the end? I am still up in the air about the Jason/Lana relationship. The premire really didn't show us a whole lot about it. The best part had to be when Kal-El flew. Damn! it sucks that he is the only one who can fly and not Clark. Why can't the writers and producers break their promise, I for one wouldn't mind. And then of course there is Lex. It is funny that we still find him chasing shadows. One would think that the man would have learned the stupidity in that from his father. Last but not least, the Kents. It was interesting to see the role reversal from last season's premire. Instead of Jonathan taking on Kal- El and bringing Clark back it was Martha's turn to step up. It was definitely funny how when Clark came back how Jonathan just suddenly sat up in bed after spending three months brain dead. Well if the rest of the season continues like this, I would say we are in for one hell of a ride. __________________
