All Tess really wanted was for people to accept and believe in her. Clark and Oliver welcoming her into the team was probably what she needed most to make the decision in the end to be good.

Lex claimed to be saving her from turning into him, but Clark already did that.

^ Yup and I think that when she first came into the series, we were suppose to believe she would ultimately turn out evil however I loved that the Smallville writers went a totally different direction with her.
