~ Why Harry & Luna? ~

"The relationship between Harry and Luna has evolved from indifferent acquaintances in the beginning of "The Order of the Phoenix", to a friendship of comfort, support and true loyalty. Since her first appearance at the Hogwarts Express, Luna had a dreamy, surreal quality that others couldn't understand. Pegged as "loony" by classmates she keeps her composure and shows nothing but kindness and comprehension towards others. She reassures Harry that he is not crazy, and that she too can see the thestrals. Without hesitation or fear she professes complete belief in Harry's story of his battle with Voldemort, slowly turning the tide of doubt and suspicion against him. With nothing to gain and everything to lose, she joins in the fight at the Department of Mysteries, showing courage and bravery that was an aide to Harry and his friends. Finally she uses her father's "Quibbler" to publish Harry's true account, clearing his name and letting the wizarding world know that Voldemort was indeed back. At the end of "The Order of the Phoenix" Harry and Luna cement a strong bond and deep understanding of one another through their shared losses, as she helps to ease the pain of losing his beloved Godfather. Harry and Luna, although different in many ways, are also very similar. They both know the pain of being outcasts, of being different. Though they may not realize it, they desperately need each other. Harry needs her comfort and her ability to see what others cannot, or are unwilling to. She provides the lighter moments he so desperately needs in a time of great turmoil, as well as a spiritual connection that has been absent from his life thus far. And Luna needs Harry's friendship, his willingness to look past her "loony" exterior and see the girl underneath, giving her a chance to feel accepted. Will their relationship become something more? Perhaps. But even if romance is not in the future, it is their unique friendship, their deep connection that will keep us all inspired and willing to believe."

~ Reasons ~

1) Harry originally thought she was weird, but now he understands her and knows he can trust her.
2) She has always believed him!
3) He realized he doesn't mind talking to her about Sirius.
4) She can see the Thestrals too.
5) She helped him get his story published.
6) She always told him what she thought.
7) She is not going to flip out over every little thing Harry does *cough*CHO*cough*
8) He's the most powerful wizard, and in case you didn't notice, she is the only one that didn't get injured at the ministry, other than Harry.
9) She is "out to lunch" as JKR put it and that may be just what Harry needs.
10) Harry found that the terrible weight in his stomach seemed to have lessened slightly. And it was because of Luna.
11) Because they both know what it's like to be talked about behind their backs.
12) Because he offered to help her get back her stuff.
13) Because he'd rather spend time with her than go to the end-of-year feast.
14) Because they can ride off on a thestral in the moonlight without any trouble.
15) Because sometimes Luna understands Harry even better than Hermione or Ron.
16) Because he could trust Luna enough to tell her everything that was bothering him.
17) Because she makes Harry see outside his little world of the Gryffindor Common Room.
18) Because her flights of fancy help him to think outside the box.
19) Because her matter of fact manner grounds him.
20) Because Luna needs a bit of taming.
21) Because Luna doesn't need an excuse to use that Lion hat more often, but would be great if there was a special reason for it.
22) Because Luna needs someone who doesn't think she's an idiot and who's willing to stick up for her.
23) Because they're actually very alike in strange ways.
24) Because of the unconscious bond that they've created between each other.
25) Because Harry can't deny the fact that through Luna, he can see himself.

Alright, so if you know me from the D/G fandom, you know I'm genuinely obsessed with using models to portray HP characters in their older days. So for Luna, I would go with Australian model Gemma Ward:

I used to not like her look at all, but she has grown on me, and now I think she's too cute for words ^^

And for Harry (Yes, Dan will always be our one true Harry I guess! ^^), I stumbled upon this manipulation of model-turned-actor Ian Somerhalder and had a freak-out moment XD

*Starts to get manipulation ideas* I've spread plenty of D/G love already...perhaps it's time to include H/L as well? There are so many pictures of Gemma and Ian in existence...

I just need different views of glasses I guess XD

I felt that the H/G stuff was rushed too. They also didn’t show much of the actual relationship at all, either. And I agree that there was more foundation for building a Harry/Luna relationship than for H/G. I prefer H/L, but that H/G kiss was pretty romantic.

I think that JK intended to put them together in book 6, but not make them last. I think that they were put together because Ginny had always had a crush on him, and 7 years of never getting what you want is a bit cruel. So they had to have their chance, but it didn’t have to last.
