It's definitely another story to tell. James & Lily have a lot of history together especially their time in Hogwarts. I really think, in spite of Lily being friends with Snape (it was one-sided), that they're meant to be together.

I prefer James & Lily over Severus/Lily and only because Severus didn't really express his love for Lily in a way that I wanted him to. James & Lily were attracted to each other and if Severus lightened up a bit, I would probably be mulling over who I like best for Lily.
