Yeah, Chris really did start off the movies in a good tone. Granted Dan, Emma & Rupert were still feeling their characters this time, but the first 2 movies were a good starting off point for the rest of the HP movies that will follow.

I think David Yates directing the last 4 movies was mostly because he enjoyed doing it (and who isn't going to watch a HP movie by this time) and Jo not wanting to work with another director anymore.

Yes, the first two movies really captured the characters. The rest were more interested in cgi and made-up scenes to shock (burning the Burrow? seriously Yates?) and ignored to develop the characters or try to follow the books.

OMG yes! For a while I was confused why the Burrow was destroyed cause I remember not reading that. And then it hit me, of course it was an added scene "for effect". It's weird though cause later on we see The Burrow and it looked like it wasn't destroyed at all.

Don't remind me the burning Burrow

Truly, i wish Chris was still the director of all the movies. There's no doubt he'd have done a much better job.

A little late, but TFTNT, Lindsay. I told you why i couldn't started it myself.

I agree that Yates did a bad job with the films, but he had a big budget and WB wanted to be more appealing to the adult audience so they turned the movies into action/cgi/dark with many added scenes just for shock. I also believe that Chris Colombus would do a far better job if he directed all films.

For me, Mike Newell really was the worst. GoF was so weird (in terms of directing).

No problem. And yeah, that part from DH. Very couple-y already if you ask me.

Yes, GoF was the worst! Even the simpliest things... like who actually thought it would be a good idea to have such long hair all the actors?

Anyway, I love that moment in DH! Married couple since then

This.

I remembered in HBP how Hermione was so jealous of Lavender that Harry actually had to go check on her. At this point, I don't know why these two are too stubborn to see that they're attracted to each other. It was obvious to everyone else but them.

the moment in dh always cracks me up

gof was one of the worst films but for me the worst was cos. i know most people love cos movie but for me it was such a dissapointment after the first two films who were faith in the books to see this horrible adaptation. and also it was the beginning of ron-bashing and hermione-worship.

^ I agree about the points that PoA was also one of the worst (mostly for how they were dumbing down Ron and all the hero Hermione complex). I guess I loved it still because of Sirius and it was the first time we saw Gary play the role so I was in awe of him. Plus the RHr scenes were the best.

Of course, for me, the bigger picture is I did enjoy all the RHr scenes we got, especially in HBP and DH1/2.

^ yes, poa i meant not cos.

it's not so much how many cute r/hr scenes we got. i'd rather have less or only the book moments if that would keep the characters faith to the books.

Adaptation isn't such an easy task, but i think we can all agree that they could do a better job. In my mind, they tried to follow the books but also adding things for shock, entertainment or anything that WB believed that the audience would like to see (like let's force a possible love triangle instead of having two loving couples, because that's the market )

x Ron will always tease her about that

^ LMAO, I love that moment. Ron sounded incredulous that I found it so funny.

Btw, everyone, I'll be away starting Sunday and won't be back until the 5th. Just a heads-up.

Hermione's crush on Lockhart was always so funny and Ron never missed a chance to tease her about it and also to point out that he was right about him being a fraud and Hermione was wrong to believe his lies.

A part of Ron probably wishes it was him instead of Lockhart but it's best to keep that to himself.
