What do you think of the PoA movie? #2

And so you can carry on discussing here. I pretty much think the whole spoiler thing is ok now. Pretty much anyone who's anyone has seen it.

Warning, rambling thoughts ahead . . .

Welll I saw the movie twice and really enjoyed it. The chemistry between the main H, H, and R is great, and the uncomfortable touching stuff between H/R was dead on (ah, 13 - evil age)!

One thing I noticed a little, but noticed more as I saw other people commenting on it, was that Ron was kind of portrayed as a coward. Don't get me wrong, I love Rupert Grint's "scard to death" faces as much as anyone, but I was wondering if that's how it was in the book. So I started re-reading . . .

And you know, it wasn't. I can understand changing the plot around a little for time, and needed to leave some things out, but what I don't understand is putting dialogue in someone else's mouth. I guess my best example is in the shrieking shack. In the book, Ron jumps up (broken leg and all) and defiantly tell Sirius, "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill all three of us (paraphrase)." In the movie, Hermione says it while Ron sits there nursing his leg and looking terrified. I just dont' get why they would do that.

I realize that in the movies that they are using Ron's character for comic relief, but they don't have to make him a total sissy boy to do it. In the books, Ron has become my favorite character because he is often so outspoken and determined to go after what he wants, even if he thinks he'll fail. In the movies, he's my favorite because he is the cheeky one and you gotta love redheads (OK, we are so not going into my pervy chrush on a 15-year-old)

But does he seems like two different characters to anyone else?

I don't like Ron's complete cowardice in the movies. They better change it back in the next one. I think with a British actor we'll have some sense return to the plot.

I saw it again today, and aside from the Ron thing I really admire Alfonso's work. He's done a great job of bringing the movies into their proper age. In the way that they are becoming more mature.

A couple more things I noticed but didn't see properly, so if someone wants to tell me what they are then that'd be great. Firstly, what's the book that the person is reading in the Leaky Cauldron, it's a muggle book, which is why it caught my eye. Secondly, there was some attention to detail that I thought was too much not to mean anything, and that's the scarcthed picture on one of the wooden supports in the outside corridor thing where Lupin was talking to Harry. It looked like a fish to be, but I'm not sure.

I also don't get the girl at Harry's bed after the game. She's so random it's not even funny.

Speaking of which, what was with the kid who was in Griffindor, who read out the bit in the book in Divination about the Grim? And he was also in the Great Hall when they were looking at the Daily Prophet and how Sirius had been spotted somewhere near Hogwarts. I'm not even sure of his character's name, but some of his lines could've been said by Dean or Seams, did they really have to have this other character?

Does anyone know who he was?

as I said in the previous thread, he was no one. I hate this thign of introducing unknown characters who don't have anythign to do. As someone said, those lines could have been read by Dean or Seamus, come on!
In PS there was Chris Columbus' daughter playing Susan Bones, and in CoS this same girl was wearing a Gryffindor tie. Why don't they pay attention to those details? it gets me on my nerves! They invent characters in the movies, in the books there are only 8 Gryffindors in Harry's year, but in the movie there were almost 20.. but well I understand that if there were only 8 people the scene would be too empty and the movie wouldn't be so appealing... but I still don't like that

and I totally agree on the cowardice of Ron in the movies. Ron is the character I hate the most, I totally dislike him, but I don't think it's fair to picture him as he appears in the movie of PoA, when clearly in the book he is not like that. I love Rupert, and I hate Ron, and Rupert usually makes me not to be bothered by Ron in the movies as much as in the books, but in this one I totally hated Ron as much as in thebooks. I saw him like a different person from CoS, very weird...

I totally agree, Angelina should have been there!!! Angelina forever!
It's okay with me to have extras, but it's not okay with me when the extras do things that main characters could do perfectly

When I saw it, it looked like it was Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time.

Oh I loved the movie. My sister is a big Harry Potter fan(she only has 3 more chapters to go from the 4 book and she barely bought it Friday... she cant put it down) and she's turned me into one . We both enjoyed the movie very much although the maraude's map cut Merssus Moonney ect and the meaning behind it did bother us a little, its our favorite HP movie. Oh and I loved the R/H stuff, hopefully it will continue more.

Seriously?! He was a Griffindor!? Well, that's just wrong! Obviously, glaringly wrong!
I'm with you there Dean or Seamus should of had those lines.

I still don't get why Hermione says " I think they're funny" so sternly when the 3rd years are gathering for the Magical Creatures class. I assumed she was speaking about the Monster Books because it's right after we see Neville being attacked by his book. But the way Emma said it confused the hell out of me. It was like a piece of that scene was cut and they just left the end bit with that line and it doesn't make sense.

I've seen the movie 4 times now. Still as captivating as the first time. This DVD is going to get sooo much wear and tear, I think maybe I should by 2 (just in case).

I just saw the film today and I really enjoyed it, I loved the feel of it although I do agree about how annoying it is that Ron was painted as being a coward...he also didn't really seem to be in the film that much. I'm sure he was really but, I don't know, he just didn't seem very prominent. I guess that's a side effect of the cowardly thing.

I thought this film was paced better than the other two, less plodding at the start, I liked how the 'back to Hogwarts' thing wasn't dwelt on too long. However I did think it felt a bit like they weren't even at school towards the end...which again was a bit odd...it felt a bit detached.

I loved the special effects though and the Whomping Willow bits throughout, I thought it was nice how they were thrown in. I thought it looked great as a film, and I liked the mountainous setting.

What else? Really liked Lupin, Snape was as great as ever and I thought Gary Oldman was good as Sirius. All in all the best so far but then again it's a better book than the first too!

Oh and the best bit was Hermione calling Ron 'Ronald'. Loved the way Emma said that, good stuff

Its the movie's take on Hagrid's original line...in the book Hagrid says he thought the books were funny...after Malfoy's insults....in the movie, it goes to Hermione, she sticks up for Hagrid....and of course its Hermione sticking up for Hagrid instead of him sticking up for himself cuz in the movie she's Super!Hermione

I didn't really like the movie. It wasn't really like the book. I just really didn't like the ending.

I really liked PoA. I thought it was better than the past two. Alfonso Cuaron did a really good job. The story was different than the book, and there were a couple things that bothered me. The one that bothered me the most was the absence of the explaination of how the Marauder's Map came about and who made it. There were other things, especially the attention they didn't give to details, but I really enjoyed this movie and would like to see it a second time.

Who says they were all Harry's year? Meal seating is assigned by house which covers a range of 7 years, age 11 to 17. Those kids could have been other years.

i liked this movie better then the other two, but there were still things that bothered me.. like the broom at the end? did that really have to go there? the ending was too suddon... and i really didn't like that too much Emma seemed to have slipped into Hermione. (ie, the hair part)

You are right, someone else said the same. Which is quite a good set up for the end of the film. I knew it was relevant somehow.
